the All Progressives Congress (APC), officially announced its withdrawal from the upcoming local government elections scheduled for December 2026.

In a strongly-worded statement released on Thursday in Ibadan by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Olawale Sadare, the APC made it clear that they will not be participating in a process they describe as illegal, ill-conceived, and entirely self-serving.

Accusations of Undermining Grassroots Autonomy

The APC leveled heavy criticism against Governor Seyi Makinde, accusing his administration of actively working against the independence of local governments. According to Sadare, the decision to rush into a local council election at this time will only worsen the struggles currently faced by the people at the grassroots level.

The opposition party claimed that Governor Makinde’s true motive is to secure his influence beyond his tenure by placing loyalists into key local government positions.
