According to report reaching oyogist.com, the Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, has reportedly charged the Nigerian troops not to be afraid of the International Criminal Court (ICC) war crimes investigation.

The COAS made this known in a statement signed by him titled, ‘COAS Urges Troops Fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP Terrorists In The North East Not To Be Demoralised By The International Criminal Court Investigation And The Amnesty International (Nigeria) Posture’.

The COAS noted that the ICC statement was derogatory and demoralising for the committed Nigerian troops and others good loving Nigerian who have interest in joining the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“There is no doubt such statement and instigation can distract the Nigerian Army troops with its demoralising effects. It will have negative consequences on troops morale, interest in military service by Nigerians and severe setback to all our internal security operations in the country.”

Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, in the statement, termed the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) investigation as being ‘wicked’ with the sole aim of distracting the Nigerian troops from rising insecurity in the country and thereby directed the Nigerian troops to focus on the final onslaught of the Boko Harm/ISWAP terrorist groups in the Northeast.

“The COAS further enjoined troops to ignore the wicked, unnecessary distractions and direct troops to fully concentrate on the final defeat of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorist group which is in sight.”
