The Nigerian Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have denied the circulated media report that there’s a spike in the number of Covid-19 infections among the Youth corpers in its orientation camps. Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi Director, Press and Public Relations of the NYSC nited that the attention of the service management had been drawn to various media reports including a write up which states “Why the Rising Cases of Covid-19 in NYSC Camps”. The write up which has now drawn the attention of NYSC management has now been a trend on various media reporting sites.
Mrs. Adenike noted that all returning NYSC members were tested of Covid-19 before the commencement of the currently ongoing orientation programme in collaboration with the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). She also noted that those who were tested positive for Covid-19 were were picked up by the NCDC for proper care and isolation.
“No one, both staff and prospective corps member, that tested positive to COVID-19 was allowed into any of the orientation camps. Therefore, it is erroneous and very misleading to talk about rising cases of COVID-19 in NYSC camps,” Mrs. Adenike stated.
She also stated the welfare of the Youths service corps members was the topmost priority of the NYSC management noting that the management would never prioritize its own above the welfare of the corp members.
