The former Senate President and the Chair of the 8th Session of the Nigerian National Assembly, Bukola Saraki and his wife, Toyin Saraki have condemned the attacks on peaceful protesters in Nigeria.

Nigerians have continued to demand the total abolishment of the notorious Special Anti-Robery Squad also known as SARS through peaceful protests held in several states across the country, including Lagos, Ibadan, Ilorin, Osun and Abuja.

The protests started in Lagos on Thursday, the 8th of October and spilled into the second day in Ibadan, Osun, Abuja and other states of the country, OYOGist.com reports.

In one of the many videos posted online, peaceful protesters were seen dispersed by men of the Nigerian Police with teargas and live shots fired at unarmed protesters

“The reports of the aggression meted out to young Nigerians protesting the high handedness of rogue units of Nigerian Police are deeply disturbing,” the former Senate leader tweeted.

“Leaders of our nation ought to listen to and engage with our youth on matters concerning their wellbeing. I hope this approach changes soon.”

Speaking on the matter as well, the wife of the former Senate leader, Toyin Saraki also condemned the act of the police by tweeting, “As you’ve always insisted — ‘with our predominantly young population, Nigeria belongs to the youth of today. Their rights, and the Rule of Law, must be respected and protected as the core drivers of the nation’s aspiration’.”

“SARS brutality must end. Swiftly,” Toyin Saraki tweeted, quoting her husband’s initial post on the same matter.
