Akinyele killings: Ritualist arrested in Ibadan serial murder case

An alleged ritualist has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command in connection to the series of killings that happened between June 2 and June 24, 2020 in Akinyele local government of Ibadan, OYOGist.com has gathered.

The alleged ritualist was said to have reportedly carried out these killings, mostly through hacking his victims to death, often after first raping them if they are females.

The series of unsolved murders have placed the community on a tensed atmosphere, with the Oyo State commissioner of police, Mr Nwachuku Enwonwu, being forced to move his office to Akinyele, Ojo where the killings took place.

Confirming the arrest to the press, Olugbenga Fadeyi, a spokesperson to the police said, ““Yes, we have arrested some suspects in connection with Akinyele killings; we will brief the press soon please.”

Some of the victims of the mysterious murders include Barakat Bello, an 18-year-old student that was raped and killed in her home on the 2nd of June. Another victim was On June 5, a pregnant woman, Azeezat Shomuyiwa whose head was smashed with a stone. 

Grace Oshiagwu, a female student of Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, was also killed inside a church on the 13th of June.

A 5-year-old-boy was also killed on the 22nd of June, while a 42-year-old married woman, Mrs Olusayo Fagbemi was hacked to death in front of her house.
