‘Ban on Interstate Travel Created an Illegal Empire’ – Boss Mustapha

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force, Boss Mustapha today, 29th June, 2020 confirmed that the Federal Government has approved the resumption of Interstate travels in the country. This decision was taken after consideration of the report of the Presidential Task Force on the Covid 19 and with the approval of the President Buhari.

According to the Secretary to the state government, Boss Mustapha : “We imposed the inter state travel ban to limit transmission but we discovered that it was not working. As a matter of fact, we just created another enterprise where Nigerians spend more to travel”. OYOGist.com learned

This was made in reference to the allegations that there was still regular inter state travel but at a much higher cost to passengers. Investigations revealed that a standard travel from Lagos to the South East which cost an average of N8,000 before the ban on interstate travel cost as high as N20,000 per trip while those who resorted to using private vehicles paid as high as N60,000 to N100,000 to drivers who understood how to circumvent the rules.

The PTF however reiterated that the nationwide curfew between 10pm and 4am was still in place and travel is not expected within these hours. Also, the National Coordinator of the PTF, Sani Aliyu also added that buses and vehicles are expected to abide by the 50% passenger rules during such interstate travels.
