In a significant development that could reshape Nigeria’s aviation landscape and cement its position as a key player in Africa’s aerospace industry, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has warmly welcomed a major proposal from global aircraft manufacturer Airbus. The French-European company is seeking to establish advanced aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, including hangar infrastructure, right here in Nigeria.
The announcement, which stems from a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda, signals growing international confidence in Nigeria’s economic reforms and strategic vision under the current administration. According to a statement from the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the discussions took place on Thursday when President Tinubu engaged with an Airbus delegation led by Thierry Cloutet, Head of Regional Business Growth for Africa and the Middle East.
President Tinubu described the proposal as a timely and strategic move that aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s ambition to become a regional aerospace and aviation services hub
