OYOGist.com has learned that the federal government has warned that any state government which withholds funds meant for their respective Houses of Assembly and judiciary would get their allocations deducted at source by the Accountant General of the Federation and remitted directly to the affected state organs.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, made the clarification yesterday in further explanation of the Executive Order signed by President Muhammadu Buhari last Friday, giving effect to the commencement of the implementation of the law which he had earlier signed into law last year.

The AGF explained that there was no going back on the matter which had become part of the country’s constitution. President Muhammadu Buhari signs the Executive Order No. 10 of 2020 which grants financial autonomy to State legislature and the judiciary on Friday. The signing of the bill came as a surprise for many governors.

Many of them were left shocked by the president’s action coming so soon after the financial autonomy granted local governments by this same administration.
