David Barmasai Tumo, a Kenyan athlete, has emerged the winner of the 2020 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon organized by Access Bank on the 8th of February 2020.
Lagos City Marathon’s Twitter account (@LagosMarathon) announced David Barmasai Tumo the winner of the 42km marathon on Saturday.

The 31-year-old is a Kenyan professional athlete with a core focus on long-distance marathon races. The athlete also managed to break some records with the Lagos City Marathon race.
According to statistics shared by Athletics Africa on Twitter, David Bamasai was able to best Abraham Kiprotich’s 2018 course record with 4 minutes and 41 seconds.
Barmasai finished at 2:10:23 to Abraham Kiprotich’s 2018 2:15:04 finish.
David will be taking the grand prize of $50,000 back to his home country of Kenya, while the second and third runner ups will take home $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
The 42km race started at the National Stadium, Surulere and ran its course at Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island.
Several roads were closed to activities to facilitate the annual race, which included The Third Mainland Bridge, Osborne road, Lekki/Ikoyi link bridge and Parkview road.
At the event to thrill the audience were A-list performers such as singers, Teni and Reminisce (AKA Alaga Ibile)
