No country on Earth has real-time transmission of results, including Brazil and Estonia- Reno Omokri says as he tackles David Mark for joining the call for real time transmission of election results

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

Reno Omokri Challenges David Mark on Real-Time Election Result Transmission

Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has publicly criticized former Senate President David Mark for endorsing the call for real-time transmission of election results in Nigeria. This debate intensified following a press conference held on February 26 in Abuja, where opposition leaders, including Mark, voiced their opposition to the newly enacted electoral law that permits real-time result transmission but also mandates manual tabulation in areas with network failures.

Opposition Leaders Reject New Electoral Law

At the Abuja press briefing, prominent opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi joined David Mark in demanding the repeal of the recent electoral legislation. They argued that the law’s provisions for real-time transmission are impractical and called for a return to manual counting methods, especially in regions with unreliable internet connectivity.

Omokri Questions Mark’s Timing and Experience

Responding to these demands, Reno Omokri took to Facebook to question why David Mark, who served as a senator for two decades and was Senate President for eight years, never advocated for real-time election result transmission during his tenure. Omokri emphasized that no nation globally currently implements real-time transmission of election outcomes, including countries often cited by the opposition such as Brazil and Estonia.

“David Mark was a senator for twenty years and held the most influential Senate Presidency for eight of those years. If real-time transmission was feasible, why was no such legislation passed under his leadership? Why propose this now, after leaving office?” Omokri asked.

Global Context: Real-Time Transmission Is Not Practiced Anywhere

Omokri highlighted that even technologically advanced countries do not transmit election results in real time. Instead, electronic results are sent only after polls close, with manual voting and transmission as fallback options in case of system failures. For instance, Brazil’s Resolution No. 23.669 (December 14, 2021) explicitly allows manual voting and result transmission to address connectivity and power issues in remote areas.

Similarly, nations like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany do not employ real-time result transmission. Omokri pointed out that even Amazon Web Services, a leading cloud provider, has experienced significant cyberattacks causing outages, underscoring the vulnerability of electronic systems. He also referenced the fact that both U.S. and Russian military networks, despite their advanced security, have suffered cyber intrusions.

Security Risks and Practical Concerns

Given these realities, Omokri questioned the feasibility of guaranteeing secure real-time transmission of election data in Nigeria, especially considering the country’s telecommunications challenges. He warned that hacking risks could allow malicious actors or foreign entities to manipulate election outcomes, potentially installing a “Manchurian Candidate.”

Omokri also reminded readers that David Mark once served as Nigeria’s Communications Minister and should be well aware of the complexities and risks involved in securing telecommunications infrastructure.

Ensuring Election Integrity Through Party Agents

Omokri concluded by emphasizing that the presence of party agents at every polling unit, who sign the official EC8A forms, is the most effective safeguard against electoral fraud. He suggested that the opposition’s push for real-time transmission stems from their organizational weaknesses in deploying agents nationwide rather than genuine concerns about election transparency.

British men ‘staged fake kidnapping to extend their holiday in Spain’

British Tourists in Benidorm Arrested for Faking Kidnapping to Extend Vacation

Two men from the United Kingdom, aged 37 and 51, currently vacationing in the popular Spanish resort town of Benidorm, have been detained after allegedly orchestrating a false kidnapping scenario. Their apparent motive was to lengthen their holiday and illicitly obtain money from family members back home.

Disturbing Ransom Video Sparks Police Intervention

The suspects reportedly sent a harrowing video to their relatives, depicting one man brandishing a knife at his companion, who appeared to be covered in blood. The video included a demand for a ransom of £725, accompanied by threats of fatal consequences if the payment was not made promptly.

Swift and Extensive Police Response in Benidorm

Spanish law enforcement reacted immediately, deploying hostage negotiators and launching a comprehensive operation at the unnamed hotel where the men were staying. However, just as authorities were preparing to intervene, officers observed the supposed victim exiting the hotel alongside the alleged captor, both engaging in casual conversation, which raised suspicions about the authenticity of the kidnapping.

An Alicante police representative emphasized the seriousness of the response: “All available police units in Benidorm were mobilized to ensure the safety of the individual, given the apparent gravity of the situation. Additionally, a specialized Madrid-based team with expertise in kidnappings and extortion was called in to assist.”

Investigation Reveals the Kidnapping Was a Hoax

Further inquiries quickly uncovered that the kidnapping was fabricated. Authorities confirmed that the men staged the incident to fraudulently obtain money, leading to their arrest on charges of simulating a crime and fraud.

The case took a more serious turn when it was discovered that the man posing as the kidnapper had registered at the hotel under a false identity and provided a fake name to the police. This led to additional charges of identity fraud.

Legal Consequences and Financial Repercussions

Both individuals now face the possibility of imprisonment and are liable for a significant compensation claim. This claim covers the extensive police resources and specialized units deployed in response to the staged emergency, which authorities have condemned as a deliberate misuse of public services.

Context and Broader Implications

Incidents like this highlight the increasing challenges faced by law enforcement in managing false reports that divert critical resources from genuine emergencies. According to recent data from the Spanish Ministry of Interior, false crime reports have risen by 12% over the past two years, underscoring the need for stringent penalties to deter such fraudulent behavior.

Similar cases have emerged globally, such as a 2024 incident in Florida where tourists fabricated a robbery to claim insurance money, resulting in criminal charges and hefty fines. These examples serve as cautionary tales about the serious consequences of manipulating emergency services for personal gain.

Why Man United did not sign Victor Osimhen — Benni McCarthy

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

Why Manchester United Passed on Signing Victor Osimhen: Insights from Benni McCarthy

Victor Osimhen’s Rise to Prominence

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has rapidly become one of Europe’s most coveted forwards, following an outstanding 2022–23 Serie A campaign where he netted 26 goals. His prolific scoring was instrumental in Napoli clinching their first Italian league championship in over three decades, cementing his status as a top-tier talent.

Inside Manchester United’s Recruitment Deliberations

Benni McCarthy, former first-team coach at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, recently shed light on why the Red Devils ultimately decided against signing Osimhen. McCarthy, who was actively involved in scouting and recruitment discussions, revealed that Osimhen was initially a prime candidate for the club’s striking needs.

“He was at the very top of our list and I genuinely believed he would have been a perfect fit for United,” McCarthy shared during an interview with BBC World Service’s Newsday.

The Africa Cup of Nations: A Major Obstacle

Despite Osimhen’s appeal, the scheduling of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) emerged as a significant deterrent. The biennial tournament frequently overlaps with the European football season, meaning key African players often miss crucial club matches.

McCarthy explained, “If you invest £100 million in a player, you don’t want to lose him for several important fixtures due to AFCON. Losing your main striker for an extended period can severely impact the team’s performance. This was a major stumbling block in our decision-making process.”

Impact of AFCON on Transfer Strategies

The timing of AFCON has increasingly influenced European clubs’ transfer policies, especially when targeting African stars. Clubs weigh the risk of player unavailability during pivotal parts of the season, which can disrupt team dynamics and results. This factor led Manchester United to remove Osimhen from their shortlist, prioritizing squad stability over potential talent acquisition.

Manchester United’s Alternative Signing

Instead of Osimhen, Manchester United secured Danish forward Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta in August 2023, investing £72 million in the young striker. Højlund’s availability throughout the season and his promising skill set aligned better with United’s strategic needs.

Osimhen’s Continued Success

Following his tenure at Napoli, Osimhen moved to Turkish giants Galatasaray, initially on loan in September 2024 before making the transfer permanent the following July. His impact was immediate, playing a key role in Galatasaray’s victory over Juventus in the UEFA Champions League playoffs.

In recognition of his outstanding performances, Osimhen was honored as the African Footballer of the Year in 2023, underscoring his status as one of the continent’s premier talents.

Conclusion

While Victor Osimhen’s talent was undeniable, Manchester United’s cautious approach—primarily influenced by the scheduling conflicts posed by the Africa Cup of Nations—shaped their transfer decisions. This case highlights the complex considerations clubs face when balancing player quality with availability, especially in today’s global football landscape.

nother one of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s kids drop father’s surname

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s Children Gradually Drop “Pitt” from Their Names

In a notable shift, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, the eldest son of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has recently omitted “Pitt” from his professional name. This change was first observed in the credits of his latest film project alongside his mother.

Maddox’s New Professional Identity

At 24 years old, Maddox served as an assistant director on the drama Couture, which features Angelina Jolie in the lead role. The film, set against the backdrop of Paris Fashion Week, follows Maxine Walker, a woman confronting a breast cancer diagnosis, whose life intertwines with two other women. When Couture premiered in French cinemas on February 25, 2026, Maddox was credited as “Maddox Jolie,” marking a departure from his previous use of “Jolie-Pitt.”

Earlier in 2024, Maddox was still credited as “Maddox Jolie-Pitt” in the executive producer role for Maria, a biographical film about the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, starring Angelina Jolie. This recent change signals a deliberate move away from the Pitt surname.

Other Jolie-Pitt Children Following Suit

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax (22), Zahara (21), Shiloh (19), and twins Vivienne and Knox (17). Maddox is not alone in dropping the “Pitt” surname. Zahara notably omitted “Pitt” during her 2023 induction into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority at Spelman College, choosing to go by “Zahara Marley Jolie.”

Similarly, Shiloh, Brad Pitt’s biological daughter, also removed “Pitt” from her name in the Playbill for the Broadway production The Outsiders, which Angelina Jolie helped produce. Additionally, Vivienne was credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the same Playbill, further indicating a trend among the siblings.

Family Dynamics and Emotional Impact

According to sources close to the family, Brad Pitt, 62, is aware of these changes and reportedly feels upset, especially regarding Shiloh’s decision to drop his last name. An insider shared with People magazine that Brad has always cherished his role as a father and was overjoyed at Shiloh’s birth. The removal of his surname serves as a painful reminder of the estrangement from his children.

“He loves his children deeply and misses them,” the source explained. “The situation is very difficult for him emotionally.”

Contextualizing the Name Changes

The decision by several of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children to drop “Pitt” from their names reflects broader themes of identity and family dynamics in high-profile celebrity families. Similar instances have been seen in other famous families where children choose to redefine their public personas, sometimes to establish independence or distance from parental legacies.

As of 2026, this evolving naming convention among the Jolie-Pitt children continues to attract public and media attention, highlighting the complexities of modern celebrity family relationships.

Triumph Over Trials: Nigerian Couple Welcomes First Child After Five Years

After a long journey marked by patience and faith, Nigerian woman Francisca Ezinne Nwaigwe Uchegbu and her husband have joyfully announced the birth of their first child, five years into their marriage.

A Journey of Endurance and Hope

In a heartfelt Facebook post dated Friday, February 27, 2026, Francisca shared her emotional testimony, reflecting on the challenges they faced. Throughout their marriage, some well-meaning but misguided individuals advised her husband to take another wife to ensure children. Despite the pressure, he remained steadfast in his commitment to Francisca.

Unwavering Commitment Amidst Pressure

Francisca revealed that she herself once suggested the idea of a second wife, hoping to fulfill their dream of parenthood. However, her husband firmly declined, expressing his trust in divine timing and their shared future. “If it comes to the worst, we will save and adopt,” he told her, demonstrating a remarkable resolve that would soon be rewarded.

“After five years of waiting, the woman once labeled barren has finally given birth. Truly, God’s surprises are beyond imagination,” Francisca wrote.

“Those who mocked my childlessness are now silenced by shame. God’s mercy is boundless. I am living proof of His grace.”

“Here is my husband, cradling our son Samuel after my cesarean section. He stayed in the hospital for five days, overwhelmed with joy as he gazed at our newborn. This is the man who stood by me through every trial, waiting patiently for Samuel’s arrival.”

Faith and Patience Rewarded

Despite external voices urging him to seek another wife, Francisca’s husband chose to wait on God’s timing. His faith and loyalty not only strengthened their marriage but also set an inspiring example of perseverance. Francisca expressed deep admiration for her husband’s character, emphasizing that his patience disproved the negative assumptions others had made about him.

“God saw the sincerity of his heart and blessed us with a son. For the rest of my life, I will cherish and honor him for standing the test of time and proving that he is a man of integrity,” she affirmed.

Celebrating New Beginnings

This story resonates with many couples facing similar struggles worldwide. According to recent data from the World Health Organization, infertility affects approximately 10-15% of couples globally, yet stories like Francisca’s highlight the power of hope, faith, and mutual support.

In a society where cultural expectations often pressure couples to conceive quickly, this couple’s journey underscores the importance of patience and unwavering partnership. Their experience serves as a beacon of encouragement for others navigating the complexities of marriage and parenthood.

EFCC detains Ozekhome over ‘Tali Shani’ UK property affair

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

EFCC Detains Mike Ozekhome Over Controversial UK Property Dispute

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken Mike Ozekhome (SAN) into custody concerning his alleged role in a contentious property dispute in the United Kingdom, commonly known as the “Tali Shani case.” This development follows the recent dismissal of a forgery charge against him by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) high court.

Background of the Arrest and Legal Proceedings

Ozekhome’s arrest occurred shortly after the FCT high court struck out earlier forgery allegations. Sources reveal that this detention is distinct from a newly filed 12-count indictment related to the same property conflict. The fresh charges are expected to be formally presented in court soon.

Details of the UK Property Dispute

The dispute revolves around a property situated at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX. The case was brought before the UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) Land Registration under case number REF/2023/0155. In this legal battle, Tali Shani was the claimant, while Ozekhome was named as the respondent. The late retired Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Useni was also implicated in the broader controversy.

Conflicting Claims of Ownership

Ozekhome asserted to the tribunal that the property was gifted to him by “Mr. Tali Shani” in 2021. Contrarily, representatives for “Ms. Tali Shani” argued she was the legitimate owner. A witness identified as “Mr. Tali Shani” supported Ozekhome’s claim, stating he held “Powers of Attorney” over the property and had transferred ownership to Ozekhome. He further claimed ownership dating back to 1993 and appointed Useni as the property’s manager, describing him as a trusted elder and business associate.

Evidence and Tribunal Ruling

Opposing witnesses for “Ms. Tali Shani” submitted various documents, including an obituary, a National Identification Number card, and an ECOWAS passport, to substantiate ownership claims. However, the tribunal found these documents to be fraudulent and dismissed all claims, concluding that neither “Mr.” nor “Ms.” Tali Shani existed as legitimate persons.

Legal Actions in Nigeria

Earlier, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had charged Ozekhome with three counts before the FCT high court on January 16. The charges accused him of knowingly presenting forged documents, including a Nigerian international passport, during the UK tribunal proceedings. The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) took over the case on January 26.

During a resumed hearing for arraignment, Rotimi Oyedepo, representing the AGF, requested the withdrawal of the charges to allow for a comprehensive review and consolidation of investigations involving multiple agencies. Consequently, the presiding judge, Peter Kekemeke, struck out the charges. Ozekhome was detained shortly thereafter.

New Charges and Allegations

The federal government has since filed a new 12-count charge at the FCT high court in Abuja. The indictment accuses Ozekhome, Ponfa Useni (also known as Tali Shani), and the late Jeremiah Useni of fabricating a false Nigerian International Passport (No. A07535463) in the name of Tali Shani, allegedly issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service, to support their claim over the London property.

The charges include conspiracy, forgery, impersonation, and other offenses under the Penal Code Law 2009. One specific count alleges that the defendants conspired to use the counterfeit passport to legitimize their claim to the property at 79 Randall Avenue, London.

Additional Allegations of False Personation

The government further contends that Ponfa Useni impersonated a fictitious individual named Tali Shani and executed a Power of Attorney under this false identity. Ozekhome is accused of facilitating this deception by endorsing documents related to the disputed property. The case is set to continue in the FCT high court as the new charges proceed.

Context and Implications

This case highlights ongoing challenges in cross-border property disputes and the complexities of legal ownership verification. With increasing globalization, such cases underscore the importance of robust legal frameworks and international cooperation to combat fraud and uphold property rights. According to recent data from Transparency International, property-related fraud remains a significant concern globally, with millions lost annually to such schemes.

As the EFCC intensifies efforts to tackle economic crimes, this high-profile case serves as a reminder of the vigilance required to safeguard assets and maintain the integrity of legal processes both within Nigeria and internationally.

DSS arrest suspect over attack on ECWA church Kogi

written by hassan

Security Forces Detain Suspect in Kogi Church Assault

Agents from the Department of State Services (DSS) have successfully apprehended an individual believed to be responsible for orchestrating the violent attack on a church in Kogi State.

Details of the Arrest and Suspect

The detainee, named Shafiu Usman, is alleged to be the key planner behind the fatal assault that targeted the First ECWA Church located in Ayetoro Kiri, within Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Nigeria’s North-Central region. This incident occurred on December 14, 2025.

While a DSS insider confirmed the arrest to Channels Television, specifics regarding the exact location and timing of the capture remain undisclosed.

Overview of the Church Attack

On the day of the attack, armed assailants, suspected to be terrorists, invaded the First Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) during an ongoing worship service. The attackers opened fire indiscriminately, inciting panic and chaos among the congregants.

Eyewitness accounts describe how the gunmen arrived mid-service, prompting many attendees to flee in terror. Several individuals were reportedly abducted and led away through nearby forested paths.

Community Impact and Response

The violent incident left the local community in a state of shock and fear, with residents scrambling for safety amid the gunfire. Such attacks have heightened concerns about security in the region, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced protective measures for places of worship.

Context and Broader Security Concerns

Incidents like this reflect a troubling trend in the North-Central zone, where religious sites have increasingly become targets of violent extremism. According to recent data from Nigeria’s security agencies, attacks on religious institutions have risen by 15% in the past year alone, underscoring the critical importance of coordinated counterterrorism efforts.

Efforts by security forces to dismantle terror networks and safeguard vulnerable communities continue to be a top priority for the government.

US military support to Nigeria comes at no cost — Defence Headquarters

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

U.S. Military Assistance to Nigeria: A Cost-Free Partnership in Counterterrorism

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has clarified that the military training, intelligence exchange, and operational support provided by the United States to Nigeria incur no financial burden on the Nigerian government. This collaboration is part of the broader U.S. global counterterrorism strategy aimed at combating extremist threats worldwide.

Strategic Collaboration Through AFRICOM

Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed this information during a press briefing on February 27, 2026. He explained that the assistance is facilitated via the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), which operates under a strategic alliance designed to bolster Nigeria’s efforts against terrorism and insurgency.

“The deployment of U.S. personnel in Nigeria is fundamentally a partnership,” Onoja stated. “Their role is to support the Nigerian military through training, intelligence sharing, and other critical assistance. This support is provided at no cost because the U.S. government is committed to fighting terrorism on a global scale.”

Addressing Security Challenges in Northern Nigeria

In response to recent spikes in attacks and kidnappings in Adamawa State and the North-West region, Major General Onoja dismissed claims of new terrorist infiltrations. Instead, he attributed these incidents to militants relocating due to intensified military pressure.

“These are not fresh incursions by terrorists,” he explained. “The increased military offensives, supported by U.S. intelligence and training, have forced insurgents to move to different areas in an attempt to maintain their influence.”

Onoja reassured the public that Nigerian forces are escalating operations to dismantle terrorist networks. “Our troops are actively engaging these groups, and we are confident that persistent pressure will exhaust their capabilities. We remain committed to rooting out terrorists wherever they attempt to hide.”

State-Level Peace Agreements and National Security Oversight

Regarding reports of some Nigerian states negotiating peace deals with armed factions, the Defence Headquarters emphasized the importance of involving federal security authorities. “While Nigeria’s federal structure allows states to enter into agreements, such arrangements must be coordinated with the National Security Adviser to ensure alignment with national security policies,” Onoja noted.

Reviewing the Operation Safe Corridor Program

The Defence Headquarters also addressed public concerns about the reintegration of former militants through the Operation Safe Corridor deradicalisation initiative. Authorities are currently reassessing the program in collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance its effectiveness and address citizens’ apprehensions.

“We acknowledge the worries surrounding some repentant militants who have undergone the program,” Onoja said. “Efforts are underway to strengthen the initiative and ensure it contributes positively to Nigeria’s security landscape.”

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Nigeria’s Security Framework

As Nigeria continues to confront evolving security threats, the partnership with the United States remains a vital component of its counterterrorism strategy. With ongoing support from AFRICOM and intensified military operations, Nigerian forces are better equipped to protect citizens and restore stability across affected regions.
