BREAKING: OpenAI Secures AI Deployment Deal with U.S. Department of War — Same Terms That Led to Anthropic Blacklisting

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 28, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, has announced an agreement with the U.S. Department of War to deploy its AI models within the department’s classified network.

According to OpenAI, the deal includes safety guardrails such as prohibitions on domestic mass surveillance and a requirement for human responsibility in the use of force, including in matters involving autonomous systems. The company said these principles were reflected in the final agreement and that deployment will occur within secure, cloud-based environments with additional technical safeguards.

However, the development is drawing heightened attention because the structure of the agreement mirrors the same conditions that reportedly led to the Department of War designating rival AI firm Anthropic a “supply chain risk.” Anthropic had previously resisted broader federal access to its models, citing ethical restrictions around surveillance and weaponization, a stance that triggered federal escalation and restrictions.

Despite that earlier crackdown, the Department has now accepted similar guardrail-based terms from OpenAI, effectively approving an arrangement that aligns with the safety principles Anthropic publicly advocated.

The contrast is likely to fuel debate over consistency in federal AI policy, competitive dynamics within the AI industry, and the evolving standards governing military use of advanced artificial intelligence.

The agreement signals a major shift in the relationship between U.S. defense institutions and frontier AI companies, and could reshape how AI governance, national security, and corporate policy intersect going forward.

JUST IN: U.S. Government Designates AI Firm Anthropic a “Supply Chain Risk”

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 28, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

The United States government has officially designated artificial intelligence company Anthropic as a “supply chain risk”; a classification historically reserved for foreign adversaries and hostile entities.

The move marks the first time such a label has reportedly been applied to a U.S.-based technology company.

A “supply chain risk” designation typically signals that an entity poses potential threats to national security, critical infrastructure, or federal procurement systems. In past cases, similar classifications have led to restrictions on federal contracts, government use of products, and partnerships involving sensitive systems.

While full details of the decision have not yet been publicly disclosed, the designation could significantly impact Anthropic’s relationship with federal agencies, defense contractors, and companies operating within government supply chains.

The development comes amid escalating tensions between parts of the U.S. defense establishment and major AI firms over access to advanced AI models, deployment parameters, and ethical limits surrounding surveillance and military applications.

Industry analysts say the decision could reshape how AI companies engage with national security institutions, and may signal a broader shift in federal oversight of advanced artificial intelligence technologies.

We did a 10 slide infographic on the ongoing rift between Anthropic and the US Pentagon. Go have a look:

Online news platform Sahara Reporters has reported the arrest of businesswoman Tracy Ohiri, alleging that she was detained on the orders of Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi.

According to the report, Ohiri was initially arrested and later granted bail. However, police officers allegedly attempted to re-arrest her despite claims that she had perfected her bail conditions.

Sahara Reporters further claimed that the businesswoman collapsed during the incident and was rushed to a hospital for medical attention.

Details surrounding the circumstances of her arrest, the nature of the allegations against her, and the legal grounds for the reported re-arrest attempt remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.

There has been no official statement from the Nigeria Police Force or the Minister of Works addressing the allegations.

The development has sparked reactions on social media, with calls for transparency and due process. Observers say further clarification from relevant authorities will be crucial in determining the facts of the case.

Russia Accused of Striking Kostyantynivka with Phosphorus Munitions and FAB-1500 Bomb

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 27, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

Reports circulating on social media claim that Russian forces struck the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka with both phosphorus munitions and a FAB-1500 guided glide bomb.

According to the claims, the attack allegedly involved the deployment of phosphorus-based weapons, which ignite on contact and burn intensely, alongside a FAB-1500, a 1,500-kilogram guided glide bomb considered one of the largest conventional munitions in Russia’s arsenal.

Videos shared online appear to show multiple incendiary-like streaks descending over the city skyline. However, independent verification of the footage and the exact type of munitions used has not yet been confirmed by neutral observers.

The use of phosphorus weapons is highly controversial. While white phosphorus is not universally banned, its use in civilian-populated areas may violate international humanitarian law due to its indiscriminate and incendiary effects.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official confirmation from Russian authorities regarding the nature of the strike. Ukrainian officials have previously accused Russia of using prohibited or restricted munitions in populated areas, claims Moscow has repeatedly denied.

Kostyantynivka, located in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, has been the site of intensified fighting in recent months as hostilities continue across eastern Ukraine.

Further updates are expected as more verified information becomes available.

Oyo State Police Command Busts Transnational Ammunition Syndicate, Recovers 2,625 Cartridges

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 27, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

The Oyo State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its fight against illegal arms proliferation, dismantling a transnational ammunition trafficking syndicate and recovering 2,625 cartridges.

In a press release issued on February 27, 2026, the Command disclosed that operatives of its Monitoring Unit, Saki Operation Base, carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of two suspected international gun runners at Budo Mosalasi, Saki.

The suspects, identified as Isiaka Dare, 35, and Taiwo Ayodabo, 33, both from Tede, were apprehended following credible intelligence linking them to cross-border ammunition trafficking from the Republic of Benin into Nigeria through unauthorized routes.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly engaged in the clandestine importation and distribution of prohibited ammunition to unauthorized individuals across the country. Authorities warned that such arms could be used in armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes.

During the operation, officers recovered 105 packets of pump-action cartridges concealed in four jerry cans. Each packet contained 25 cartridges, bringing the total to 2,625 cartridges. Two unregistered motorcycles believed to have been used for transporting the ammunition were also seized.

The suspects have reportedly confessed and are assisting investigators in uncovering the broader transnational network and identifying other accomplices.

Commissioner of Police Femi Haruna directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. He commended the professionalism of the operatives and emphasized the importance of intelligence-led policing in dismantling organized criminal networks.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information to security agencies as efforts intensify to curb the proliferation of illegal arms in Oyo State.

Pakistan declares ‘open war’ with Afghanistan and vows ‘crushing response’ over Taliban rule

by hassan February 27, 2026

Pakistan Declares Open Hostilities Against Afghanistan Amid Intensified Border Clashes

Escalation of Cross-Border Conflict

In a significant escalation of ongoing border disputes, Pakistan has announced what it terms an “open war” against Afghanistan, pledging a decisive and overwhelming retaliation following a series of overnight military strikes. Both nations engaged in aggressive operations after months of mounting tensions along their shared 1,615-mile frontier.

Airstrikes and Ground Operations Shake Kabul and Beyond

Afghan authorities reported that Pakistani air raids caused substantial destruction and casualties in Kabul, following Taliban attacks on Pakistani border forces earlier in the week. Islamabad claims these strikes resulted in the deaths of approximately 133 Taliban militants, though independent verification of these figures remains unavailable. The Pakistani military targeted Taliban strongholds, including key sites in Kabul, Pakita, and Kandahar—the latter being the power base of Taliban leader Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada.

Leadership’s Firm Stance and Accusations

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Islamabad’s readiness to counter any hostile moves, asserting the country’s “full capability to crush any aggressive ambitions.” He reiterated Pakistan’s historical preference for peace but warned that its armed forces would respond resolutely to any provocation.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif adopted a more confrontational tone, declaring, “Our patience has run out. This is now an open war between us and Afghanistan.” He accused the Taliban regime of transforming Afghanistan into “an Indian proxy” and alleged that Kabul is actively recruiting militants worldwide to export terrorism into Pakistan.

Retaliatory Strikes and Uncertain Developments

Following the Pakistani bombardments, Taliban forces reportedly launched counterattacks from Kandahar and Helmand provinces. An Afghan government spokesperson initially confirmed fresh assaults on Pakistani troops via social media but subsequently retracted the statement, adding to the confusion surrounding the conflict’s immediate developments.

Residents of Kabul described the explosions as so powerful that they initially mistook them for an earthquake, recalling a recent seismic event in the city. One eyewitness told the BBC, “At first, we thought the ground was shaking again, but then we heard the thunderous blasts.”

Regional Mediation Efforts and Diplomatic Strains

In response to the escalating violence, Iran has stepped forward offering to mediate between the two neighbors. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi expressed Tehran’s willingness to facilitate dialogue aimed at restoring peace and fostering cooperation.

This latest flare-up jeopardizes a fragile ceasefire that has been intermittently maintained along the border, which has witnessed numerous skirmishes and diplomatic tensions over recent years. The previous major confrontation in October 2025 necessitated urgent negotiations to avert a broader conflict.

Historical Context and Ongoing Accusations

Pakistan has long accused the Taliban government of sheltering anti-Pakistan insurgents and enabling attacks within its territory, including a recent deadly bombing at a mosque in Islamabad. The Taliban, in turn, denies these claims and accuses Pakistan of conducting unprovoked assaults against Afghan civilians.

With both sides entrenched in mutual recriminations and military engagements, this confrontation represents one of the most severe deteriorations in Pakistan-Afghanistan relations in recent memory, raising concerns about regional stability and security.

Mother sparks mixed reactions as she shaves daughters hair because the little girl “thinks being pretty is more important than being obedient”

Mother’s Controversial Haircut Sparks Debate Over Discipline and Appearance

A Black American mother recently ignited a wave of diverse opinions after she gave her daughter a strikingly uneven haircut as a form of discipline for losing concentration at school. The haircut left the child with a balding effect in the center of her head, while the sides retained more hair, creating a stark and unconventional look.

Disciplinary Measures and Social Media Backlash

Kierra Williams, the mother, shared a photo of her daughter’s new hairstyle on Facebook, accompanied by a candid explanation of her reasoning. She wrote, “I shaved my daughter’s head today because she believes looking PRETTY is more important than being obedient! If you can’t focus on SCHOOL and avoid distractions like boys and irrelevant things, then let’s take away some of that misplaced confidence. Gave her a quick reality check with the George Jefferson cut.”

Uneven haircut given by mother to daughter as discipline

Understanding the Impact of Appearance on Youth Behavior

This incident highlights the ongoing debate about the balance between enforcing discipline and respecting a child’s self-expression. According to recent studies, nearly 60% of teenagers report that their appearance significantly influences their self-esteem and social interactions. In this context, altering a child’s hairstyle as punishment can have profound psychological effects, both positive and negative.

Alternative Approaches to Addressing School Distractions

Experts suggest that instead of punitive measures that affect a child’s physical appearance, parents might consider open communication and positive reinforcement to encourage focus and responsibility. For example, setting clear goals, providing academic support, and fostering a supportive home environment can be more effective in promoting school engagement.

Community Reactions and Broader Implications

The mother’s decision has sparked a spectrum of responses online, ranging from support for her strict parenting style to criticism for potentially damaging her daughter’s confidence. This case serves as a reminder of the complex dynamics between discipline, cultural perceptions of beauty, and child development in today’s society.

EFCC re-arraigns Malami, wife, son on money laundering charges

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

EFCC Re-Arraigns Former AGF Abubakar Malami and Family on Money Laundering Allegations

On February 27, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) brought former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, alongside his wife Asabe Bashir and son Abdulaziz, back before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The trio faced fresh arraignment on charges related to money laundering.

Case Reassignment and Corrections in Charges

The hearing marked the reassignment of the case to Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. EFCC’s lead counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Jibrin Okutepa, informed the court that the defendants were to be re-arraigned. He also requested a correction in the monetary figures stated in the charges: amending Count 11 from N325 billion to N325 million, and Count 12 from N120 billion to N120 million. The defense, represented by SAN Joseph Daudu, did not oppose these adjustments, and Justice Abdulmalik approved the application.

Defendants’ Plea and Legal Proceedings

Despite the serious allegations, Malami, his wife, and son all entered pleas of not guilty to the 16 counts of money laundering leveled against them by the EFCC. The charges are part of ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to clamp down on financial crimes, which have seen increased prosecutions in recent years.

Background: Previous Court Appearances and Bail Conditions

Initially, the case was handled by Justice Emeka Nwite, who presided during the holiday vacation period. Following the vacation, the Chief Judge reassigned the matter to Justice Egwuatu, who later recused himself, leading to the current reassignment to Justice Abdulmalik.

The original arraignment took place on December 30, 2025, under case number FHC/ABJ/CR/700/2025. At that time, Malami and his son were detained at Kuje Correctional Centre, while Asabe Bashir was held at Suleja Correctional Centre. On January 7, all three were granted bail set at N500 million each, with two sureties each of equivalent value.

Context and Significance

This case highlights the Nigerian government’s intensified crackdown on corruption and illicit financial activities. According to recent data from Transparency International, Nigeria ranks 150th out of 180 countries on the Corruption Perceptions Index, underscoring the ongoing challenges the country faces in governance and financial integrity.

Similar high-profile cases, such as the prosecution of former governors and public officials, demonstrate the EFCC’s commitment to holding influential figures accountable. The outcome of this trial is being closely watched as a potential indicator of Nigeria’s judicial independence and anti-corruption resolve.

‘I wish I was governor under you’ – Akpabio hails Tinubu for removing fuel subsidy and says Governors now get more allocation as a result

by hassan February 27, 2026
written by hassan

Senate President Akpabio Commends President Tinubu’s Fuel Subsidy Removal

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent elimination of the fuel subsidy, highlighting the positive financial impact on state governments.

Increased Allocations to State Governments

Akpabio revealed that the removal of the fuel subsidy has significantly boosted the funds allocated to governors. He noted that many current governors now receive allocations that are approximately four times greater than what he obtained during his tenure as governor of Akwa Ibom State. This substantial increase in revenue is attributed to the government’s revised fiscal policies under the current administration.

Reflecting on Past and Present Governance

Reflecting on these changes, Akpabio expressed a wish to have governed under the present administration, acknowledging the enhanced financial resources available to state executives today. This sentiment underscores the transformative effect of the subsidy removal on Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.

Senate’s Role in Policy Oversight

Addressing criticisms that senators merely rubber-stamp decisions, Akpabio emphasized the Senate’s diligent review process. He stated, “Contrary to popular belief, we thoroughly scrutinize every proposal before us to ensure they align with the best interests of Nigerians.” This commitment to careful legislative oversight is crucial in maintaining transparency and accountability.

Appreciation for Tax Reforms and Economic Measures

Akpabio also extended his thanks for the tax reforms implemented by the Tinubu administration, which, alongside the subsidy removal, have strengthened Nigeria’s economic framework. These reforms are part of broader efforts to stabilize the nation’s finances and promote sustainable development.

Contextualizing the Impact

According to recent data from the Nigerian National Bureau of Statistics, the removal of fuel subsidies has contributed to a 15% increase in federal allocations to states in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. This fiscal adjustment has enabled many states to expand infrastructure projects and social programs, illustrating the tangible benefits of the policy shift.

Actress, Denise Richards must pay ex-husband Aaron Phypers $5K monthly support

by hassan February 27, 2026

Denise Richards Ordered to Provide Temporary Spousal Support Amid Ongoing Divorce Battle

Court Mandates Monthly Payments to Aaron Phypers

In the midst of their protracted divorce proceedings, American actress Denise Richards has been legally required to pay temporary spousal support to her soon-to-be ex-husband, Aaron Phypers. Court records obtained by TMZ reveal that on Wednesday, February 25, a judge decreed Richards must remit $5,000 monthly to Phypers. These payments are scheduled to commence on March 5 and are to be paid by the fifth day of each month until the court issues further instructions.

Additional Financial Obligations Imposed on Richards

Beyond the monthly support, the court has ordered Richards to cover $25,000 in legal fees incurred by Phypers. Furthermore, an extra $5,000 has been allocated to potentially secure the services of a forensic accountant. This combined sum of $30,000 is to be paid in three equal installments of $10,000 at the end of March, April, and May respectively.

Background and Legal Proceedings

This ruling follows Phypers’ formal request for spousal support filed in October 2025. Both Richards and Phypers provided sworn testimony before the judge, contributing to the court’s decision. The divorce case has been characterized by intense disputes over financial matters, including income streams and business interests.

Financial Disputes and Legal Costs Fuel Ongoing Conflict

The dissolution of the marriage between the former “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star and Phypers has been fraught with disagreements, particularly concerning financial responsibilities and the division of assets. Legal expenses have emerged as a significant point of contention, with each party attributing blame to the other for escalating costs. As of now, the divorce proceedings continue without resolution.

Contextual Insight: Celebrity Divorce Trends

High-profile divorces like this one often involve complex financial negotiations and substantial legal fees. According to recent data from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the average cost of a celebrity divorce can exceed $100,000, reflecting the intricate nature of asset division and support arrangements. Similar cases, such as the 2024 split between actors Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, also highlighted the challenges of balancing public scrutiny with private financial disputes.
