Fitness coach, 30, tragically passes away after extreme binge-eating challenge meant to promote his new weight-loss program

Fitness coach tragically dies after extreme binge-eating stunt promoting weight-loss program

Tragic Loss of Russian Fitness Influencer Following Extreme Weight Fluctuation Challenge

Dmitry Nuyanzin, a 30-year-old fitness coach and social media personality from Orenburg, Russia, has passed away after undertaking a perilous binge-eating experiment designed to promote his forthcoming weight-loss program. His plan involved rapidly gaining over 50 pounds and then shedding the weight publicly to demonstrate the effectiveness of his method.

Unprecedented Caloric Intake and Health Consequences

For several weeks, Nuyanzin reportedly consumed an astonishing 10,000 calories daily, including large quantities of pastries, half a cake, nearly two pounds of dumplings smothered in mayonnaise, frequent snacking, and fast food dinners. This extreme diet was intended to shock his audience with a dramatic transformation.

Rapid Weight Gain and Alarming Symptoms

Within just one month, he had gained close to 30 pounds, frequently updating his followers on his progress and promoting his upcoming fitness course. He even incentivized his audience by offering cash prizes to those who could lose 10% of their body weight by the New Year. However, by mid-November, Nuyanzin reported weighing over 230 pounds and began experiencing health issues.

Sudden Health Decline and Passing

According to reports from the Daily Mail, the fitness coach canceled his training sessions due to feeling unwell and informed friends of his intention to seek medical advice. Tragically, he died in his sleep from cardiac arrest shortly thereafter.

Community Reaction and Expert Warnings

Tributes have flooded social media, with many remembering Nuyanzin as an inspiring and kind individual. Health professionals emphasize that rapid and extreme weight gain places significant stress on the cardiovascular system, increasing the risk of heart failure. The heart must work harder to pump blood against increased resistance, a danger amplified by sudden, drastic changes in body mass.

Understanding the Risks of Extreme Weight Manipulation

Medical experts caution that such extreme fluctuations in weight, especially when achieved through unhealthy binge-eating, can lead to serious complications including hypertension, arrhythmias, and heart attacks. Recent studies indicate that sudden weight gain of more than 10% of body mass within a short period can elevate the risk of cardiovascular events by up to 25%.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with extreme dieting challenges and the importance of prioritizing health over social media trends.

Police rescue 2-year-old girl trafficked and sold multiple times in Nigeria

Police Rescue Toddler Trafficked and Sold Multiple Times Across Nigeria

The Niger State Police Command has successfully recovered a 2-year-old girl who was abducted and sold through a chain of buyers, including a pastor in Abuja, for a total sum of ₦6.6 million. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of child trafficking and abduction in Nigeria.

Details of the Abduction and Trafficking Network

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the toddler, Rahamat Mohammed, was kidnapped from Sabon-Wuse in Tafa Local Government Area by a suspected human trafficker named Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie. Victoria was previously apprehended with three other abducted children.

Investigations revealed that Victoria initially sold Rahamat to a woman named Rosemary, residing in Nyanya, Abuja. Subsequently, Rosemary transferred ownership of the child to Pastor Vincent Emmanuel, based in Abuja’s Asosi area, for ₦2.8 million.

Final Buyer and Plans for International Trafficking

Pastor Emmanuel later sold Rahamat to a London-based woman, Anthonia Nwabufor, for ₦3.8 million. Authorities uncovered that Anthonia was preparing to bring the child to the United Kingdom, coordinating with Rahamat’s mother in Asaba, Delta State, to facilitate the girl’s relocation abroad.

“Following the arrest of Victoria Chukwumezie at Diko Junction on November 5, 2025, and her subsequent confessions, our operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna traveled to Asaba, Delta State, on November 24, 2025,” the police statement detailed.

“Upon arrival, Rahamat Mohammed was recovered. Victoria admitted to abducting the child on October 2, 2025, and selling her to Rosemary in Nyanya. Rosemary then sold Rahamat to Pastor Vincent Emmanuel for ₦2.8 million, who later sold her to Anthonia Nwabufor for ₦3.8 million. Anthonia, based in London, instructed that the child be handed over to her mother in Asaba to arrange for her travel to the UK.”

“To date, six children have been rescued, and eight suspects connected to this trafficking ring have been arrested. Investigations are ongoing.”

Context and Broader Implications

This case underscores the persistent threat of child trafficking in Nigeria, where traffickers exploit vulnerable families for financial gain. According to recent reports by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), thousands of children are trafficked annually within and outside Nigeria’s borders.

Efforts by law enforcement agencies, including coordinated operations across states, have led to increased recoveries and arrests. However, experts emphasize the need for enhanced community awareness, stronger legal frameworks, and international cooperation to dismantle trafficking networks effectively.

Preventive Measures and Community Role

Communities are encouraged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to authorities promptly. Parents and guardians should be educated on safeguarding children from potential traffickers, especially in rural and high-risk areas.

Moreover, NGOs and government bodies continue to advocate for improved child protection policies and rehabilitation programs for rescued victims to ensure their safe reintegration into society.

Fela Anikulapo-Kuti to Receive Prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at 2026 Grammys

More than three decades after his death, the iconic Nigerian musician Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is poised to be celebrated on one of the world’s most prominent music platforms. The Afrobeat pioneer will be honoured with a Special Merit Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, acknowledging his profound and enduring influence on the global music landscape.

Honouring a Musical Legend During Grammy Week

The award ceremony will take place on January 31, 2026, as part of the Recording Academy’s Special Merit Awards event, held during Grammy Week just a day before the main Grammy Awards show. Fela will be recognized alongside other legendary artists such as Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan, Cher, and Paul Simon, highlighting the exceptional company he joins in this distinguished celebration.

Fela’s Enduring Legacy Beyond Grammy Wins

Although Fela never secured a Grammy during his lifetime, his musical and cultural impact has only grown stronger over the years. In 2025, his groundbreaking 1976 album Zombie was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, a milestone accepted by his sons, Femi and Seun Kuti. This moment underscored the far-reaching influence of his work, which continues to inspire musicians and audiences worldwide.

The Architect of Afrobeat: A Multifaceted Trailblazer

When announcing the honourees on Instagram, the Recording Academy described Fela as “an architect of Afrobeat, honoured for a lifetime of influence.” They highlighted his multifaceted role as a Nigerian musician, producer, arranger, political activist, and visionary. In the 1960s, Fela innovatively fused elements of funk, jazz, salsa, calypso, and traditional Nigerian rhythms to create the Afrobeat genre, a sound that revolutionized music both in Africa and internationally.

Global Reach and Influence of Fela’s Music

The Academy also emphasized the extensive reach of Fela’s legacy, noting that his influence transcends generations. His pioneering work has shaped contemporary Nigerian Afrobeats and inspired global superstars such as Beyoncé, Paul McCartney, and Thom Yorke. Beyond music, his heritage is preserved through his family’s ongoing contributions and cultural landmarks like the Kalakuta Museum and the New Afrika Shrine, which continue to celebrate his life and message.

Joining the Ranks of Music’s Elite

With this accolade, Fela Kuti joins an elite group of past Special Merit Award recipients, including luminaries like Whitney Houston, Cher, Paul Simon, Chaka Khan, Carlos Santana, Sylvia Rhone, John Chowning, Eddie Palmieri, and Bernie Taupin. This recognition cements his status as a transformative figure in music history.

Nigerian Artists Shine Bright at the 2026 Grammys

As the 2026 Grammy Awards approach, Nigerian musicians continue to make significant strides on the global stage. Burna Boy is nominated for Best African Music Performance with his hit “Love” and for Best Global Music Album with No Sign of Weakness. Meanwhile, Davido receives a nod for his collaboration “With You” featuring Omah Lay in the Best African Music Performance category. Rising stars Ayra Starr and Wizkid are also recognized, with Ayra’s track “Gimme Dat” earning a nomination.

#MENtalityWithEbuka: Some Movies That Shed Light on Masculinity

by Ayodeji Onibalusi December 21, 2025

Exploring Masculinity in Film

How Cinema Reflects and Redefines Masculinity

Art has a unique ability to mirror the world around us or imagine what might be. Among the various art forms, cinema stands out for its capacity to narrate stories that resonate deeply with audiences, offering reflections of personal and collective identities. Films not only entertain but also provoke thought, revealing the complexities of human nature and societal norms.

The Role of Film in Shaping Conversations About Manhood

While mainstream blockbusters often prioritize spectacle-be it fantasy, romance, or action-subtle explorations of masculinity frequently go unnoticed. The nuanced inner lives of men, their vulnerabilities, and societal expectations are themes that many popular films sidestep. Yet, some filmmakers courageously delve into these questions, challenging traditional stereotypes and inviting viewers to reconsider what it truly means to be a man today.

Key Questions Explored Through Film

These cinematic works grapple with essential inquiries: What responsibilities do men hold within their communities? How do personal actions shape those around them? Where does the balance between strength and sensitivity lie? And how do men navigate the pressures of societal roles while maintaining authenticity?

Films That Illuminate the Many Facets of Masculinity

The Pursuit of Happyness: Vulnerability Meets Resilience

Will Smith’s portrayal of Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happyness dismantles the traditional stoic male archetype by highlighting the emotional endurance required in fatherhood. The film powerfully illustrates how true masculinity encompasses tenderness and perseverance, especially when faced with homelessness and hardship. It redefines strength as the ability to remain compassionate amid adversity.

Fatherhood: Navigating Loss and Love with Humor

In Fatherhood, Kevin Hart explores the challenges of single parenthood and grief, blending humor with heartfelt moments. The film challenges rigid masculine norms by portraying a father who learns empathy and embraces vulnerability, emphasizing the importance of presence and emotional availability in parenting.

Adolescence: The Emotional Journey to Manhood

Adolescence offers a poignant look at how young boys wrestle with societal expectations of strength and freedom. Stephen Graham’s film captures the emotional awakening necessary to break free from toxic ideals, highlighting the complex dynamics between fathers and sons during this critical transition.

King Richard: Ambition, Protection, and Fatherly Devotion

King Richard chronicles the journey of Richard Williams, father to tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams. The film portrays masculinity as a blend of fierce determination and nurturing care, illustrating how a man’s love can fuel greatness despite external skepticism. It underscores the duality of strength and sensitivity in paternal roles.

Breath of Life: Redemption Through Connection

Directed by BB Sasore, Breath of Life explores masculinity through themes of faith, purpose, and regret. The story follows a man who withdraws from society after a personal loss but finds healing and renewed meaning by mentoring a younger man. This film highlights emotional reconnection and redemption as vital aspects of modern manhood.

Awon Boyz: Voices from the Streets of Lagos

This compelling documentary sheds light on the daily realities faced by street boys and men in Lagos, Nigeria. It offers an unfiltered look at survival, brotherhood, and resilience, challenging viewers to reconsider preconceived notions about masculinity in marginalized communities.

My Father’s Shadow: Healing Through Confrontation

Akinola Davies Jr.’s My Father’s Shadow delves into the complex inheritance of trauma and strength passed from fathers to sons. The film emphasizes that breaking cycles of pain requires courage and love, portraying reconciliation as a transformative act rather than defiance.

Reimagining Masculinity: From Myth to Reality

Collectively, these films challenge outdated myths about masculinity, presenting men as multifaceted individuals capable of love, failure, growth, and vulnerability. Whether through fatherhood, mentorship, or personal struggle, they reveal masculinity as a dynamic journey toward self-awareness and emotional depth rather than mere dominance.

MENtality with Ebuka: A Platform for Male Conversations

In line with these evolving narratives, Nigerian media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu has launched MENtality with Ebuka, a podcast dedicated to fostering open discussions about men’s experiences, challenges, and identities in contemporary society. This initiative reflects a growing cultural shift toward embracing diverse expressions of manhood.

Leo Stan Ekeh Calls for Tech-Focused Parenting as TD Africa Celebrates Partners at 12th Annual Awards Night

Leo Stan Ekeh Champions Technology Education at TD Africa’s 12th “Celebrating You” Awards

At the prestigious 12th edition of TD Africa‘s annual “Celebrating You” Awards Night, held at the renowned Eko Hotels & Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, Leo Stan Ekeh, Chairman of the Zinox Group, delivered a powerful call to Nigerian parents. He urged them to invest in technology education for their children, highlighting its critical role in Nigeria’s quest for economic leadership on the continent.

Technology as a Pillar for Nigeria’s Economic Future

Addressing a gathering of industry pioneers, partners, and dignitaries, Mr. Ekeh underscored the transformative impact of technology on national development. He passionately advised, “If you have two or three children, ensure at least two pursue technology-it’s a wise investment.” His conviction reflects a broader vision where technology serves as the foundation for both personal success and Nigeria’s economic resurgence.

Celebrating Innovation Under the Theme “African Digital Renaissance”

Themed “African Digital Renaissance,” this year’s awards night has solidified its reputation as a landmark event within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. It convened innovators, corporate partners, and national leaders to honor exceptional achievements and contributions to the digital sector throughout 2025.

TD Africa’s Commitment to Excellence and Partnership

Mrs. Chioma Ekeh, CEO of TD Africa and partner to Mr. Ekeh, reiterated the company’s dedication to its collaborators. She emphasized that the unwavering loyalty and stellar performance of their partners were instrumental in driving the company’s success this year.

“Our milestones in 2025 were made possible by partners who consistently deliver excellence,” Mrs. Ekeh remarked, highlighting the collaborative ethos that propels TD Africa forward.

A Power Couple Driving Africa’s Digital Transformation

Since its inception in 1999, TD Africa has grown under the stewardship of the Ekehs into one of West Africa’s foremost technology distributors. Their partnership extends beyond business, embodying a shared mission to accelerate Africa’s digital evolution.

As Chairman of Zinox Group, Leo Stan Ekeh oversees a diverse portfolio including Task Systems, TD Africa, Zinox Technologies, and Konga. These entities collectively underpin Nigeria’s technology infrastructure, with Ekeh’s leadership focused on democratizing access to innovative tech solutions across the continent.

Optimism Amid Economic Challenges

Confronting Nigeria’s economic hurdles, Mr. Ekeh expressed a confident outlook for the nation’s future, stating, “Within the next decade, Nigeria will emerge as Africa’s strongest economy. This requires faith coupled with conscientious effort.”

He also shared a unique business principle that has shaped his journey: the concept of Corporate Tithe. Initiated two years into his entrepreneurial career, this practice involves dedicating a portion of profits to social reinvestment, a value deeply embedded in his companies’ culture.

“This uncommon approach has enabled us to launch initiatives like a $75 million creative financing fund established 16 years ago, aimed at empowering Nigerian enterprises that lack access to conventional credit,” Ekeh explained. “Funds contributed by our partners are reinvested to fortify the economy.”

Empowering Youth Through the Computerize Nigeria Initiative

In a landmark move to bridge the digital divide, Zinox Technologies and KongaCares recently launched the Computerize Nigeria Initiative. This ambitious program aims to equip over one million Nigerian students with computers, complemented by essential infrastructure such as uninterrupted power via iPower inverters, high-speed internet connectivity through Starlink, and comprehensive training and after-sales support.

This initiative stands as one of the largest corporate social responsibility projects in Nigeria’s tech sector, designed to ensure equitable access to digital education and prepare the next generation for the demands of the digital economy.

Recognizing Excellence: Award Categories and Winners

The event celebrated partners who excelled in innovation, project delivery, customer service, and strategic alliances throughout 2025. Award categories included:

  • Partner of the Year
  • Mobile Partner of the Year
  • Legacy Award
  • OEM Staff of the Year
  • OEM of the Year
  • Digital Impact Award
  • Payment Discipline Award

Adding to the evening’s excitement was a raffle draw, where Chukwuka Mmadu, Founder of Chimesco Standard Concept and a TD Africa partner, won a brand-new SUV. Mr. Mmadu expressed his gratitude and praised TD Africa’s transformative influence on Nigeria’s technology landscape.

Distinguished Guests and Cultural Highlights

The ceremony attracted a host of Nigeria’s prominent figures, including:

  • Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria and Special Guest of Honour

  • Mr. Atedo Peterside, Founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank and Anap Foundation
  • Mr. Nnamdi Ezeigbo, Founder of SLOT Systems and co-founder of TECNO Mobile

Fire Breaks Out at FIRS Headquarters in Abuja: Swift Response Prevents Major Disaster

On Saturday, a fire erupted within the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters located in Abuja, specifically affecting several offices on the building’s fourth floor.

Immediate Action by Security and Emergency Teams

According to a statement from Sikiru Akinola, Technical Assistant (Print Media) to FIRS Executive Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji, the incident was quickly addressed by on-site security personnel. Their prompt intervention, combined with the rapid arrival of the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service and other emergency units, played a crucial role in containing the blaze and preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

Damage Assessment and Safety Measures Underway

Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the fire. However, several offices on the affected floor suffered varying degrees of damage. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause, with early indications suggesting an electrical malfunction as the likely trigger.

In response to the incident, FIRS is undertaking a comprehensive review and enhancement of its internal fire safety protocols to reduce the risk of similar events in the future. This aligns with broader efforts across Nigerian government agencies to bolster workplace safety standards, especially in light of recent statistics showing a 15% increase in office-related fire incidents nationwide over the past two years.

Looking Ahead: Strengthening Fire Safety in Public Institutions

This event underscores the importance of rigorous fire prevention strategies and emergency preparedness in public sector environments. By investing in updated safety infrastructure and regular staff training, organizations like FIRS aim to safeguard both personnel and assets against unforeseen emergencies.
