Kidnappers of Auchi Doctor Arrested After Returning to His Hospital With Sick Child

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 8, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

Security operatives have arrested the suspected kidnappers of Dr. Abu Tunde, a house officer who was abducted in Auchi, following a dramatic twist in which the suspects reportedly returned to his hospital seeking treatment for their child.

Dr. Tunde and his brother were kidnapped several months ago, with the abductors initially demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release. The case drew national attention after family members and friends appealed to the public for help to raise the funds, an appeal that quickly went viral across social media.

The family of Dr Anu sought public support to raise funds for their release.

Tragically, before the ransom could be fully paid, the kidnappers allegedly grew impatient and killed Dr. Tunde’s brother. The development shocked many Nigerians and deepened calls for urgent action against kidnapping and violent crime.

Despite the devastating loss, ₦70 million was eventually paid, leading to Dr. Tunde’s release. He was freed physically but left traumatised by the murder of his brother.

After some months away, Dr. Tunde resumed his medical duties, returning to work at the hospital and continuing to save lives. In a cruel twist of fate, two men later brought a critically ill child to the same hospital for urgent medical attention. The child was reportedly the offspring of one of the men.

Upon seeing them, Dr. Tunde immediately recognised the men as the same individuals who kidnapped him and his brother, and who were responsible for his brother’s death. Acting discreetly, he alerted security operatives.

The suspects were subsequently arrested, with a video circulating online showing them handcuffed together following their apprehension.

The arrest has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling on authorities to ensure that justice is fully served for Dr. Tunde and his family. Citizens have also urged the government to provide adequate support and protection for victims of violent crime and medical professionals who continue to work under challenging conditions.

As investigations continue, condolences have poured in for the slain brother, with many offering prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for the bereaved family.

Actress Rita Edochie calls out Anambra state governor, Charles Soludo, after portable water restored during his re-election campaign has suddenly stopped running

by hassan February 8, 2026
written by hassan

Rita Edochie Challenges Anambra Governor Over Lack of Pipeborne Water

Renowned actress Rita Edochie has publicly criticized Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State for the persistent absence of pipeborne water supply in the region. Her remarks come amid growing frustration among residents who have been left without this essential utility.

Promises Made, Promises Broken: The Water Supply Dilemma

During Governor Soludo’s recent re-election campaign, he pledged to restore consistent pipeborne water access across Anambra State. Initially, this promise seemed fulfilled as water began flowing from taps, providing relief to many households, especially in Onitsha, where residents had long depended on costly borehole water vendors.

However, shortly after securing his second term, the water supply abruptly ceased, plunging the community back into hardship. This sudden reversal has sparked disappointment and skepticism about political commitments in the state.

Rita Edochie’s Call for Accountability and Action

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Rita expressed her dismay at the situation, highlighting the gap between campaign rhetoric and actual governance. She emphasized the critical need for reliable water and electricity, both vital for sustaining daily life and wellbeing.

“Attention Professor Governor Charles Soludo, also affectionately known as Olu Atu Egwu:

The campaign promises and songs have vanished like the wind. Can we expect to see our pipeborne water flowing again?

Many believe politicians often say one thing and do another. Sadly, I am beginning to agree, based on what I’ve observed in Nigerian politics. While not all politicians are the same, a significant number fall into this category, and political advisers sometimes fail to hold them accountable.

During the last campaign that brought Governor Soludo back, Onitsha residents enjoyed pipeborne water, easing their reliance on borehole suppliers. Today, the taps are dry again, and the community is left praying for restoration.

From my research, it appears there are manageable steps the governor can take to reactivate the water supply, and this issue has reportedly been brought to his attention. We await his decisive action.

On behalf of Onitsha residents, I urge His Excellency to revive the campaign spirit and restore the water flow. We are enduring hardships with no steady power and no pipeborne water-basic necessities for life.

Meanwhile, let us keep praying. It shall be well.

Good morning and happy Sunday to all my wonderful supporters. I appreciate your love and will never take it for granted.”

The Broader Impact of Water Scarcity in Anambra

Access to clean and reliable water remains a significant challenge in many Nigerian states, including Anambra. According to recent data from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, only about 40% of urban households in the country have access to pipeborne water, underscoring the urgency of addressing this issue.

Water scarcity not only affects health and hygiene but also hampers economic activities and quality of life. The situation in Onitsha reflects a wider national problem where infrastructure development often lags behind population growth and urbanization.

Looking Ahead: The Need for Sustainable Solutions

For Anambra State to progress, consistent investment in water infrastructure and transparent governance are essential. Community engagement and regular updates from government officials can help rebuild trust and ensure that promises translate into tangible improvements.

As residents await the restoration of pipeborne water, the call from public figures like Rita Edochie highlights the power of advocacy in holding leaders accountable and pushing for change.

Yobe State Police Initiate Search for Young Woman in Domestic Violence Case

The Yobe State Police Command has commenced an active search for 18-year-old Khadija Jamilu, a housewife accused of assaulting her husband during a domestic altercation in Potiskum Local Government Area.

Details of the Incident

According to the police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on February 6, 2026, when Khadija allegedly stabbed her 25-year-old husband in the genital region with a knife. The distress call was received by the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters around 3:00 pm on the same day.

Police officers promptly responded to the emergency and transported the injured man to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

“On February 6, 2026, at approximately 3:00 pm, the Potiskum police received a report of a violent domestic incident that had taken place earlier that day around 1:00 am,” the official statement read. “The suspect, Khadija Jamilu, is currently at large. She allegedly inflicted a serious knife wound on her husband’s genital area.”

“Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene and ensured the victim received urgent medical care. Investigations are ongoing, and efforts to apprehend the suspect are intensifying.”

Police Commissioner’s Response and Advice

Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, psc, fdc, condemned the violent act, emphasizing that marriage should be founded on respect, patience, and mutual understanding rather than violence or abuse.

He urged couples and those preparing for marriage to seek professional counseling and to adopt peaceful communication and anger management strategies when conflicts arise. CP Ado also recommended involving trusted family members, religious leaders, or mediators to help resolve disputes before they escalate into violence.

Community Engagement and Preventive Measures

The Police Command has called on community leaders, families, and stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns targeting youths about the principles of healthy relationships, conflict resolution, and the responsibilities of marriage.

“Our commitment remains firm in safeguarding lives and dignity. We will ensure that anyone found responsible for such offenses faces the full weight of the law,” the statement concluded.

Context and Broader Implications

Domestic violence remains a critical issue in Nigeria, with recent studies indicating that approximately 30% of women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence. This case highlights the urgent need for enhanced education on marital harmony and the enforcement of protective laws.

Similar incidents in neighboring states have prompted authorities to implement community-based interventions, including conflict resolution workshops and accessible counseling services, aiming to reduce domestic violence rates and promote peaceful coexistence within families.

Nigerian footballer d!es after brain stem injury in UK

Nigerian Footballer Saburi Olayinka Adeniji Succumbs to Brain Stem Injury in the UK

Heartbreaking Loss for Kings Park Rangers and Football Community

Saburi Olayinka Adeniji, a talented Nigerian left winger who played for Kings Park Rangers Football Club, tragically passed away on the morning of Friday, February 6, 2026, after enduring a critical brain stem injury sustained in the United Kingdom.

The club shared the sorrowful news in an official statement released the following day, highlighting Adeniji’s courageous fight to remain alive until his family could arrive from Nigeria to be by his side.

Final Moments and Family Reunion

Despite his valiant efforts, Adeniji’s wife and young daughter arrived in the UK a day after his passing. The club’s announcement expressed deep sympathy, emphasizing the profound impact he had as a player and loved one.

“It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of our number 17, Saburi Adeniji, affectionately known as ‘Ola’. He battled fiercely to be present when his family arrived. Sadly, his wife and daughter reached the UK this morning, just after he left us.”

“He will forever remain a King in our hearts – cherished as a teammate, a father, a husband, a brother, and a son.”

Medical Battle and Fundraising Efforts

Adeniji’s condition deteriorated rapidly after being admitted to Queen’s Hospital intensive care on January 15, 2026. The club had earlier launched a GoFundMe campaign on January 17 to assist with urgent travel and living expenses for his family, who were still in Nigeria at the time.

The fundraising initiative aimed to cover emergency visa fees, flights, accommodation, and daily costs, enabling his wife and daughter to join him during his critical condition. This campaign also sought to provide ongoing support for his family’s future, including his daughter’s education.

Impact of UK Medical Law Changes

Recent amendments to UK medical legislation caused delays in withdrawing life support, requiring additional formal assessments. These legal procedures created a narrow timeframe for Adeniji’s family to travel and be with him before his passing.

The club paused all fixtures to allow the team to focus on supporting their teammate during this difficult period.

Remembering Saburi Adeniji: A Legacy Beyond Football

Saburi Adeniji was not only a dedicated athlete but also a devoted family man. He was deeply committed to providing a better life and education for his four-year-old daughter. His untimely death leaves a void in the football community and among those who knew him personally.

“We urgently call on the football fraternity, fans, and well-wishers worldwide to rally behind Saburi’s family during this heartbreaking time. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the burden on his wife and secure a hopeful future for his daughter.”

“If you cannot donate, please share this message to spread awareness. Your kindness and support mean the world to this grieving family.”

Abuja-based singer who died from snake bite to be buried on Valentine’s Day

by hassan February 8, 2026
written by hassan

Tributes and Final Arrangements for Abuja-Based Singer Ifunanya Nwangene (Nanyah)

The family of the late singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has revealed the plans for her upcoming burial following her tragic passing.

Tragic Passing Due to Snakebite Complications

On January 31, 2026, Nanyah succumbed to injuries sustained from a venomous snakebite inside her residence in Abuja. Reports indicate that she was denied treatment at two separate hospitals due to the unavailability of anti-venom serum, which ultimately led to her untimely death. This incident highlights ongoing challenges in emergency healthcare accessibility in Nigeria, where snakebite envenomation remains a significant but often neglected public health issue, with the World Health Organization estimating over 20,000 deaths annually in sub-Saharan Africa alone.

Family Announcement and Public Condolences

Her brother, Kingsley Nwangene, shared the sad news and funeral details on Instagram via his account @official_kaybaba1, accompanied by a heartfelt message: “Till I see you again.” The post has since attracted an outpouring of sympathy from fans, fellow musicians, and friends across the entertainment industry, reflecting Nanyah’s impact and legacy.

Memorial Services and Burial Schedule

The family has scheduled a service of songs to honor Nanyah’s memory on February 10, 2026, at 4 p.m. This will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located in Abule Oshun, Dansa, Lagos. Following the musical tribute, a requiem mass will commence at 6 p.m. at the same venue.

Her final interment will take place in her hometown of Enugu on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2026. The following day, February 15, a thanksgiving service will be held to celebrate her life and contributions to the Nigerian music scene.

Reflecting on Healthcare Gaps and the Need for Improved Emergency Response

Nanyah’s death underscores the critical need for improved availability of essential medical supplies such as anti-venom in Nigerian healthcare facilities. According to recent health sector reports, many hospitals in the country still face shortages of life-saving treatments, which can have fatal consequences in emergencies. This tragedy serves as a call to action for policymakers and health authorities to prioritize the procurement and distribution of anti-venom and other critical medicines nationwide.

Lagos seals Ladipo market over environmental violations

Lagos Authorities Shut Down Ladipo Spare Parts Market Due to Environmental Breaches

The Lagos State Government has taken decisive action by closing the Ladipo Spare Parts Market, situated along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway. This move comes after persistent violations of environmental regulations, including improper waste disposal and unauthorized street vending activities.

Official Statement from the Environment Commissioner

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources in Lagos State, confirmed the closure via his social media platform on Sunday, February 7. He emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining environmental standards and public order in the state.

“This morning, the Lagos State government sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa-Oshodi Expressway) due to ongoing environmental violations, such as indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians and highways, as well as illegal street trading. #ZeroToleranceLagos.”

Recurring Environmental Challenges at Ladipo Market

The Ladipo Market has a history of being temporarily shut down multiple times for similar environmental offenses. Despite previous interventions, the market has struggled to comply with waste management and regulatory guidelines, leading to repeated closures aimed at enforcing sustainable practices.

Context and Broader Implications

Environmental degradation in bustling commercial hubs like Ladipo Market poses significant health and safety risks to residents and commuters. According to recent data from Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), improper waste disposal contributes to flooding and pollution, affecting over 30% of the city’s drainage systems during the rainy season.

Similar markets across Lagos have faced comparable crackdowns, highlighting the government’s intensified efforts to promote cleanliness and orderliness in urban centers. For instance, the Balogun Market on Lagos Island underwent a sanitation overhaul last year, resulting in a 40% reduction in waste-related complaints.

Nigerian Woman Appeals for Justice Following Viral Assault and Theft Allegations

A distressing video that recently circulated online shows a Nigerian woman being physically assaulted by a group of her acquaintances, who accused her of theft. The footage has sparked significant public outcry, prompting the victim to publicly seek justice.

Details of the Incident: A Dispute Over Money and Allegations

In the widely shared clip, the young woman is confronted and repeatedly slapped by another female, accompanied by several others. The aggressor alleges that the victim disrespected her and questions how she became acquainted with an unnamed man. Additionally, the attacker accuses the victim of demanding a share of money that was reportedly collected from a man she was allegedly introduced to through the group.

This confrontation appears to stem from a financial disagreement related to money obtained from a man involved in a pimping arrangement. The aggressor defends her actions in a subsequent video, stating that her approach reflects the typical way business is conducted in such circles.

Victim’s Response and Call for Support

In a recent video shared by activist Harrison Gwamnishu, the victim revealed that the assault took place in October 2025. She claims that her former friends deliberately released the footage online to damage her reputation. The woman has appealed to Nigerians and the wider public to assist her in obtaining justice and clearing her name.

Context and Broader Implications

This incident sheds light on the complex and often dangerous dynamics within exploitative networks. According to recent reports, cases involving coercion and financial disputes in such environments have increased by 15% in Nigeria over the past year, underscoring the urgent need for legal and social interventions.

Similar cases have emerged globally, where victims of exploitation face not only abuse but also public shaming through viral content. China-bound auto parts dealer arrested at Kano airport for ingesting 95 wraps of cocaine as NDLEA intercepts meth consignments in yogurt packs, Mp3 speakers

by hassan February 8, 2026

Auto Parts Dealer Detained at Kano Airport for Concealing Cocaine Internally

Authorities at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano apprehended a 62-year-old businessman from Lagos, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, after discovering 95 large wraps of cocaine, totaling approximately 1.589 kilograms, hidden inside his digestive tract. The arrest occurred on Saturday, January 31st, as he prepared to board Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940 bound for China via Addis Ababa.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed that a body scan revealed the presence of illicit substances within Izueke’s system, prompting his placement under medical observation. Over the course of seven excretions, the suspect expelled all 95 pellets of the narcotic. Izueke, who claims to be involved in the clothing and automobile spare parts trade in Lagos, admitted to trafficking drugs to finance the completion of a residential project in his hometown of Iwollo, Enugu State.

Major Methamphetamine and Cannabis Seizures Foil Smuggling Attempts

In a separate operation, NDLEA agents uncovered a substantial cache of 627.7 kilograms of skunk cannabis at a makeshift storage facility located within Fums Plaza, Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Concurrently, efforts to smuggle methamphetamine concealed inside MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna were thwarted on Friday, February 6th, when operatives intercepted the shipments aboard a bus in Abuja.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Ebube Okeke in Zuba, FCT, who was found in possession of one parcel containing 173 grams of methamphetamine. Additionally, three other suspects-Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze, and Friday Michael-were detained on February 7th in Kaduna while attempting to collect a second consignment weighing 28 grams.

Yogurt Packs Used as Concealment for Methamphetamine in Taraba State

On Friday, February 6th, NDLEA officers at the Dan-anacha patrol point in Gassol Local Government Area, Taraba State, intercepted 32-year-old Yusuf Abubakar transporting Hollandia yogurt packs from Lagos to Mubi, Adamawa State. Acting on intelligence reports, the agents conducted a thorough search and discovered that some yogurt containers were used to hide 1.8 kilograms of methamphetamine in powder form.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Drug Trafficking in Nigeria

These recent seizures underscore the persistent challenges Nigerian law enforcement faces in curbing drug trafficking networks. The NDLEA continues to intensify surveillance and intelligence-led operations across key transit points to disrupt the flow of narcotics. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), West Africa remains a critical transit hub for cocaine and methamphetamine destined for international markets, highlighting the importance of sustained interdiction efforts.
