Live and let live” – Billionaire daughter, Ruky Indimi-Dantata addresses people who lecture others on how to spend their money

Rukayat Indimi-Dantata Champions Financial Autonomy Amidst Public Criticism

A Bold Stand from a Prominent Nigerian Entrepreneur

Rukayat Indimi-Dantata, a notable businesswoman based in Kano and daughter of the renowned Borno oil magnate Mohammed Indimi, recently spoke out against unsolicited advice on personal finances. As a mother of three and a member of the influential Dantata family through marriage, her voice carries significant weight in Nigeria’s elite circles.

Addressing the Critics: A Call for Respecting Individual Choices

On the morning of February 9, 2026, Rukayat took to Instagram to express her frustration with those who publicly dictate how others should manage their wealth. She highlighted the irony of individuals who, armed with ring lights and cameras, eagerly offer unsolicited financial guidance. Her message was clear: people should be free to decide how to allocate their own resources without judgment.

“What a beautiful morning. A handful of people are ready with their ring light and cameras preparing to give lectures on how people should spend their own money. #liveandletlive,” she wrote.

Contextualizing the Message in Today’s Social Media Era

In an age where social media platforms amplify voices and opinions, public figures often face intense scrutiny over their lifestyle choices. According to recent studies, over 70% of social media users report feeling pressured to conform to societal expectations regarding wealth and spending. Rukayat’s statement resonates as a reminder to embrace personal freedom and discourage judgmental attitudes.

Financial Independence and Privacy: A Growing Conversation

Her stance aligns with a broader global movement advocating for financial privacy and autonomy. Just as celebrities like Rihanna and Elon Musk have publicly defended their right to manage their finances without external interference, Rukayat’s message underscores the importance of “live and let live” in financial matters.

Conclusion: Embracing Respect and Personal Choice

Ultimately, Rukayat Indimi-Dantata’s words serve as a powerful reminder that financial decisions are deeply personal. In a world increasingly obsessed with public opinion, her call to “live and let live” encourages tolerance and respect for individual autonomy, especially regarding how one chooses to spend their money.

Dollar to Naira exchange rate today

Nigerian Naira Maintains Stability Against US Dollar in Early February 2026

Published by Linda Ikeji on February 9, 2026, 8:56 AM

As the second week of February 2026 commenced, the Nigerian naira demonstrated continued resilience against the US dollar, sustaining its recent positive momentum. Early market figures from Monday, February 9, indicate that the local currency remains steady, supported by consistent monetary policies and a relatively robust external reserve position.

Official Forex Market Shows Slight Naira Appreciation

At the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM), the naira experienced a modest gain, trading at approximately ₦1,363.84 per dollar at the start of the week. This marks a slight improvement compared to Friday’s closing rate of ₦1,366.96, reflecting renewed market activity after the weekend.

Trading within the official window remained relatively stable, with exchange rates fluctuating narrowly between ₦1,363.35 and ₦1,363.84 during early sessions. Analysts attribute this steadiness to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) ongoing management of the Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching System (EFXMS), which has enhanced market transparency and minimized distortions across various trading platforms.

Despite inflation hovering at 15.15% and the Monetary Policy Rate steady at 27.00% in early 2026, the naira has successfully stayed below the ₦1,400 mark, signaling controlled currency depreciation amid challenging economic conditions.

Parallel Market Exhibits Controlled Dollar Demand

In the informal foreign exchange market, the dollar also maintained a steady trajectory. Bureau De Change operators in major urban centers such as Lagos, Abuja, and Kano quoted rates ranging from ₦1,440 to ₦1,455 per dollar. Although the parallel market continues to trade at a premium compared to the official rates, the disparity has narrowed significantly from the volatile fluctuations observed in late 2025.

Market participants report that demand for foreign currency, primarily driven by personal travel and small-scale import activities, is being adequately met without exerting excessive pressure on supply. This balanced demand-supply dynamic has curtailed speculative trading, contributing to the overall market calm.

The CBN’s strategic initiative to channel substantial corporate foreign exchange requirements through the official market appears effective in mitigating abrupt price surges in the parallel segment, fostering a more orderly forex environment.

Broader Economic Factors Influencing Naira Stability

Nigeria’s external reserves, which stood at approximately $40 billion as of early 2026, provide a critical buffer supporting the naira’s stability. Additionally, government efforts to diversify revenue sources beyond oil exports and enhance foreign investment inflows have contributed positively to the foreign exchange market dynamics.

For comparison, similar emerging markets like Kenya and Ghana have experienced more pronounced currency volatility in recent months, underscoring Nigeria’s relative success in managing exchange rate pressures through coordinated fiscal and monetary policies.

Banana Island Bans Short-Let Rentals After Arrest of Eight Suspected Thieves

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 10, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

Residents of Banana Island, one of Lagos’ most exclusive residential communities, have suspended all short-let rental operations following the arrest of eight suspected thieves linked to a recent security breach in the estate.

The decision was announced by the Banana Island Property Owners and Residents Association Lagos (BIPORAL), which said the move was necessary to safeguard residents and preserve the estate’s privacy and tranquility.

According to the association, the ban comes in response to growing security concerns after police arrested the suspects, who were allegedly connected to criminal activities traced to short-term rental occupants within the estate. While specific details of the arrests were not disclosed, BIPORAL said the incident highlighted vulnerabilities created by unchecked short-let operations.

In its statement, the executive committee emphasized that Banana Island was designed as a private, high-security residential community and not for transient accommodation. The association noted that the influx of short-term renters had made it increasingly difficult to monitor access, identify occupants, and maintain the standard of security expected by residents.

“The suspension of short-let rentals is aimed at preserving security, privacy, and the peaceful coexistence of residents,” the statement read, adding that the decision was taken in the collective interest of property owners and occupants.

The ban is expected to affect property owners and operators who had converted residential apartments into short-stay rentals, a practice that has become increasingly popular across Lagos in recent years.

BIPORAL said it would continue to work closely with security agencies and residents to review access control measures and strengthen internal security, while warning that any violation of the directive would attract sanctions.

The development has reignited debate around the regulation of short-let rentals in gated estates across Lagos, particularly in high-value neighborhoods where residents have raised concerns about security, noise, and loss of privacy.

EFCC Arraigns Two Over Alleged ₦600 Million NNPC Job Scam in Abuja

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 9, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, February 9, 2026, arraigned Gidado Ibrahim and Halimat Adenike Tejusho (currently at large) before the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Maitama, Abuja, over an alleged job fraud involving more than ₦600 million.

The defendants were brought before Justice H. Muazu on an amended six-count charge bordering on fraud, obtaining money under false pretence, and forgery, amounting to ₦603,400,000.

According to the prosecution, led by counsel Y. Tarfa, the defendants allegedly obtained the money between August and October 2024 from Oluseye Yomi-Sholoye by falsely claiming they could facilitate her appointment as Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The EFCC said the claim was knowingly false and constituted an offence under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

One of the charges further alleged that Gidado Ibrahim used a forged document purportedly issued by the Office of the National Security Adviser at the Presidential Villa, knowing it to be false, an offence under the Penal Code Law.

When the charges were read in court, Gidado Ibrahim pleaded not guilty to all six counts. Following the plea, the prosecution requested a trial date and asked that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility.

Defence counsel, B. B. Alhaji, informed the court that an application for bail had been filed but was not yet ripe for hearing. He, however, requested that the defendant be kept in EFCC custody due to health concerns pending the determination of the bail application.

Justice Muazu adjourned the case to February 17, 2026, for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Facility.

Halimat Adenike Tejusho remains at large as investigations continue.

Reality TV mogul Kim Kardashian and Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton were seen together during the game, fueling fresh speculation that the two may be more than just friends.

Kardashian, 45, and Hamilton, 41, were spotted sitting side by side in a VIP suite as the Seattle Seahawks faced off against the New England Patriots. Videos and photos circulating online captured the pair chatting comfortably, smiling, and appearing relaxed throughout the game — a public outing that has intensified ongoing dating rumours.

The Super Bowl appearance marks the first high-profile event where the pair have been seen together so openly, following weeks of speculation about a possible romance. Fans were quick to dissect their body language, with many noting how at ease they appeared in each other’s company.

Tinubu Receives U.S. Military Delegation at Aso Rock Amid Growing Security Cooperation

by hassan February 9, 2026
written by hassan

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday, February 8, received a high-level United States military delegation at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in a meeting that underscores the strengthening security ties between Nigeria and the United States.

The delegation was led by the Commander of the United States Africa Command (USAFRICOM), General Dagvin R. Anderson. Also present were the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern, alongside other senior U.S. military and diplomatic officials.

President Tinubu welcomed the visitors at the State House in the company of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, as well as Nigeria’s service chiefs. The meeting was held behind closed doors, and specific details of the discussions were not made public.

The visit was confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Mr. Dada Olusegun, who noted that the President formally received General Anderson, members of his delegation, and the U.S. envoy at the Presidential Villa.

Although the substance of the talks remains undisclosed, the engagement comes at a time of deepening military and security cooperation between both countries, particularly in the areas of counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and regional stability.

The meeting also follows reports that the United States recently deployed a small team of troops to Nigeria on February 3. The deployment marked the first officially acknowledged U.S. military presence in the country since airstrikes were carried out against terrorist positions on Christmas Day 2025.

Observers say the visit highlights Nigeria’s strategic role in West Africa and reflects ongoing bilateral efforts to address security challenges, including terrorism, insurgency, and transnational crime.

Paramedic Accused of Filming Himself Urinating on Boss’s Desk and in Staff Food to Sell Videos Online

by hassan February 9, 2026
written by hassan

A 36-year-old paramedic has been charged with dozens of criminal offences after authorities alleged that he secretly filmed himself urinating in multiple locations at his workplace, including on his supervisor’s desk and in food meant for staff consumption.

Christopher Carroll is accused of carrying out the acts while in uniform at the Baltimore County Fire Department, where prosecutors say he deliberately contaminated workspaces and shared facilities, allegedly with the intention of selling the disturbing footage online.

According to court documents, Carroll is accused of recording himself urinating on his supervisor’s keyboard inside the fire department offices. Prosecutors further alleged that he contaminated a large ice-making machine at the fire station, leaving bodily fluids inside the ice used by staff.

In one particularly disturbing allegation, prosecutors claimed Carroll “urinated into the ice, wiped on a scoop, and used the scoop to mix the urine throughout the ice in the icemaker,” before giving a thumbs-up gesture to the camera.

Authorities also told the court that additional videos allegedly show Carroll contaminating orange juice, hand soap, a can of vegetables, and an air-conditioning vent within the fire station. It was further alleged that a can of scented room spray in a doctor’s office waiting room was also tampered with.

Prosecutors believe Carroll recorded the acts and uploaded the videos to subscription-based websites in an effort to sell them online.

During a court hearing in Towson, just north of Baltimore, Carroll’s defence lawyer, Seth Okin, said his client had no prior criminal record and voluntarily surrendered to police earlier in the week. It was revealed that Carroll’s father drove him from Pennsylvania to Maryland to turn himself in.

“Everyone wants to know why,” Okin told the court. “I don’t have the ability to answer that question right now.”

Okin added that more allegations are still under review, noting that the existing claims alone were “enough for anyone sitting in the courtroom to react to.”

Maryland state prosecutors opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations and public safety concerns. Carroll was subsequently denied bail and remains in custody as investigations continue.

The case has sparked outrage and concern, particularly given Carroll’s role as an emergency responder entrusted with public health and safety. Authorities say further charges may follow as more evidence is examined.

Nigerian Housekeeper Arrested in Libya for Allegedly Stealing Employer’s Money

by hassan February 9, 2026
written by hassan

A Nigerian housekeeper has been arrested in Libya following allegations that she stole a large sum of money from her employer’s residence in Benghazi.

According to reports, the woman was taken into custody on Sunday, February 8, 2026, after her employer accused her of stealing 98,000 Libyan dinars from the house where she worked as a domestic helper. The arrest was reportedly carried out by local security authorities in Benghazi after the alleged theft was discovered.

Libya Observer reported that the money was found to be missing from the employer’s home, prompting a complaint to law enforcement, which led to the housekeeper’s arrest. As of the time of this report, officials have not released further details regarding how the money was allegedly taken or whether the suspect has made any statement concerning the accusation.

The case has drawn attention on social media, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the safety, legal protection, and working conditions of Nigerian domestic workers abroad, particularly in Libya, where migrants are often exposed to harsh conditions and limited legal safeguards.

There has been no official confirmation yet on whether the Nigerian Embassy in Libya has been informed or is providing consular assistance to the woman. Legal proceedings are expected to follow in line with Libyan law as investigations continue.

The incident adds to ongoing conversations about the risks faced by Nigerians seeking employment overseas and the importance of proper documentation, legal awareness, and diplomatic support for citizens working in foreign countries.

Kidnappers of Auchi Doctor Arrested After Returning to His Hospital With Sick Child

by Ayodeji Onibalusi February 8, 2026
written by Ayodeji Onibalusi

Security operatives have arrested the suspected kidnappers of Dr. Abu Tunde, a house officer who was abducted in Auchi, following a dramatic twist in which the suspects reportedly returned to his hospital seeking treatment for their child.

Dr. Tunde and his brother were kidnapped several months ago, with the abductors initially demanding a ransom of ₦100 million for their release. The case drew national attention after family members and friends appealed to the public for help to raise the funds, an appeal that quickly went viral across social media.

The family of Dr Anu sought public support to raise funds for their release.

Tragically, before the ransom could be fully paid, the kidnappers allegedly grew impatient and killed Dr. Tunde’s brother. The development shocked many Nigerians and deepened calls for urgent action against kidnapping and violent crime.

Despite the devastating loss, ₦70 million was eventually paid, leading to Dr. Tunde’s release. He was freed physically but left traumatised by the murder of his brother.

After some months away, Dr. Tunde resumed his medical duties, returning to work at the hospital and continuing to save lives. In a cruel twist of fate, two men later brought a critically ill child to the same hospital for urgent medical attention. The child was reportedly the offspring of one of the men.

Upon seeing them, Dr. Tunde immediately recognised the men as the same individuals who kidnapped him and his brother, and who were responsible for his brother’s death. Acting discreetly, he alerted security operatives.

The suspects were subsequently arrested, with a video circulating online showing them handcuffed together following their apprehension.

The arrest has sparked widespread reactions, with many Nigerians calling on authorities to ensure that justice is fully served for Dr. Tunde and his family. Citizens have also urged the government to provide adequate support and protection for victims of violent crime and medical professionals who continue to work under challenging conditions.

As investigations continue, condolences have poured in for the slain brother, with many offering prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for the bereaved family.
