According reaching oyogist.com, the Bauchi state government have reportedly started the immunization programme of vaccinating over 400,000 children against measles in the state.
The Bauchi state Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwan Mohammed, made this known at a press conference during the immunization flag-off on Monday, stating that the immunization which is to start on Tuesday was going to last for one (1) week.
The immunization programme targeted at children between the age of 9 months old and 15 months old is expected to be done all across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Dr. Rilwan noted that a new kind of vaccine has been introduced to the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) to help boost the immune systems children and urged parents to ensure the proper vaccination of their wards / children as health workers would be going around the state for vaccination.
He stated that the the vaccine does prevent children from infection but it prevents the severity of infections. “Measles vaccination does not prevent measles infection but it protects the children against infection and severity. It is one of the vaccine-preventable diseases that cause a lot of mortality and disability.”
