Everton wants to sign Manchester United goalkeeper.

Everton want to provide Jordan Pickford with competition this season as they look to bring in Man Utd goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to reports.

Carlo Ancelotti refused to blame Pickford for the two goals the Toffees conceded in their 5-2 Carabao Cup win at League One Fleetwood on Wednesday.

Pickford’s judgement was at fault for both of the hosts’ goals, first dithering over a clearance which was eventually charged down for Mark Duffy to make it 2-1 and then changing his mind over a cross and failing to keep out Callum Camps’ overhead kick straight at him for 3-2.

Everton were grateful for the 2-0 lead given to them by goals from Richarlison, with Bernard and Moise Kean eventually securing a fourth-round home tie with West Ham.

However, the Toffees could now try and provide Pickford with some competition in the form of Romero, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Romero ‘wants out’ at Man Utd after Dean Henderson – who started the Red Devils’ midweek win over Luton – was brought back into the fold after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United last campaign.

Everton are ‘heaping pressure’ on Pickford by ‘lining up’ a move for Romero, who ‘could command a fee of as much as £6m’.

Valencia and AC Milan are also named as potential destinations in the report but it’s Everton who ‘have made contact with intermediaries and held talks over a deal’ for the Argentine.
