In one of the most substantial military restructurings in recent years, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the creation of four new army divisions, expanding the Nigerian Army from 8 to 12 divisions nationwide. Alongside this expansion, the federal government has approved the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel to bolster defense capabilities.
The major overhaul aims to modernize the force, decentralize command structures, and accelerate response times to complex internal and regional security threats, including terrorism, banditry, and infrastructure sabotage.
