President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, according to a State House press release issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Oyedele’s nomination has been formally conveyed to the Senate for confirmation in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The nomination follows a cabinet reshuffle that will see Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State — marking her third portfolio in the current administration.

Background and Credentials

Until his nomination, Oyedele served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he led efforts aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.

A 50-year-old economist, accountant, and public policy expert, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

Senate Confirmation Awaited

The Senate is expected to review and deliberate on the nomination in the coming days. If confirmed, Oyedele will assume his new role within the Ministry of Finance as part of the administration’s broader economic reform agenda.

Further updates will follow as the confirmation process progresses.
