The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly arrested a man identified as Udeme Monday Stephen over alleged threats relating to an assassination attempt on former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to reports circulating online, the suspect, identified by the handle @stevetom788, allegedly claimed responsibility for an attempted attack on Obi during a visit to Benin and further suggested that the assassination would be carried out when Obi visits Port Harcourt.
Security sources indicate that the arrest was made following the circulation of posts in which the suspect allegedly made threatening statements directed at the former presidential candidate.
Authorities have yet to release an official detailed statement outlining the charges, but security agencies are said to be investigating the matter further.
Peter Obi has not publicly commented on the reported arrest as of the time of filing this report.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions and increased concerns over online threats targeting public figures. Security agencies have repeatedly warned against the use of social media platforms to incite violence or issue threats.
Further updates are expected as the DSS provides more information on the investigation.
