Notorious Drug Kingpin Reginald Peter Chidiebere Apprehended After Over a Decade in Hiding

After evading law enforcement for 13 years, Reginald Peter Chidiebere, a suspected high-profile drug trafficker, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The arrest followed the confiscation of substantial quantities of cocaine and heroin linked to him at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.

Background and Initial Arrest

According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, Chidiebere was initially detained in 2013 for involvement in cocaine smuggling into Nigeria. He was arraigned before Justice Ayokunle Faji of the Federal High Court in Lagos under case number FHC/L/187c/2923. Despite being granted bail during the trial, Chidiebere absconded and remained a fugitive for over a decade.

Recent Investigations and Evidence

In February 2024, Chidiebere’s name resurfaced prominently as a key orchestrator behind the importation of 49.70 kilograms of heroin from South Africa, intercepted by NDLEA agents at Lagos airport’s import shed. Subsequent operations on February 19, 2024, led to the discovery of an additional 2.20 kilograms of heroin at his Golden Platinum Hotel & Suites, located at No. 16/18 Reginald Peter Chidiebere Street, Hope Estate, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos. The drugs were found in possession of one of his guests, Igbuanugo Ebuka ThankGod.

Following these seizures, Chidiebere went into hiding once again. The NDLEA moved swiftly to secure an interim forfeiture of his hotel property and froze all bank accounts associated with him since 2024.

Surrender and Legal Proceedings

Unable to sustain his fugitive status amid mounting pressure, Chidiebere voluntarily surrendered to NDLEA on February 13, 2026. He is currently in custody, facing charges related to his 2013 bail-jumping offense as well as new allegations tied to the 2024 heroin shipments.

Additional NDLEA Success: Methamphetamine Lab Raided in Imo State

In a separate but related operation, NDLEA agents uncovered a secret methamphetamine production facility in Isiozi Obiato, Umuaka, Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State, on February 25, 2026. The raid resulted in the seizure of 18.4 kilograms of methamphetamine, along with a significant cache of precursor chemicals and manufacturing equipment used in the illicit drug’s synthesis.
