Oyo Govt Flags Off ‘Vibing December’ Lineup, Promises Business Boom During Festive Season

Oyo State Launches Vibing December Festival to Boost Culture and Economy

The Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in collaboration with numerous private and corporate partners, has officially inaugurated the much-awaited Vibing December festival, also known as Faaji December. This vibrant celebration is set to run from December 1 through January 2, with events taking place across all regions of the state.

A Cultural and Economic Catalyst

At a press briefing held at the Cultural Centre in Ibadan, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, emphasized that Vibing December is more than a seasonal festivity-it is a strategic initiative aimed at invigorating the state’s cultural economy during the holiday period. The festival seeks to spark innovation and draw significant patronage to sectors such as tourism, hospitality, fashion, entertainment, and gastronomy.

Dr. Olatubosun highlighted that this festival is envisioned as a lasting cultural legacy that will transcend the current administration, reinforcing Oyo State’s reputation as a vibrant cultural hub. “Our goal is to establish a tradition that future governments will aspire to enhance, not merely replicate,” he stated.

Inclusive Festivities Across Oyo State

Unlike previous celebrations confined to Ibadan, Vibing December will engage communities in Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibarapa, and Oke-Ogun, ensuring that the entire state benefits from the festive spirit and economic opportunities. “Faaji December is designed to unite all zones, fostering local involvement and ownership,” Dr. Olatubosun affirmed.

Robust Security Measures for a Safe Celebration

Addressing concerns about safety, the Commissioner revealed that the state government has implemented a comprehensive security framework involving multiple agencies to safeguard all events. Residents and visitors are encouraged to participate freely, with assurances of a secure and peaceful environment throughout the festival.

Exciting Lineup of Events and Activities

The festival’s program features a diverse array of attractions. Nigerian Breweries Plc will headline with Legendary December, a series of variety shows, carnivals, and beer exhibitions from December 4 to 31. Amaland will host a Business Hangout, a 48-hour concert, and a fashion showcase from December 11 to 13. The Atelewo Cultural Initiative will present a Yoruba Party on December 14, while Ogbomoso will celebrate its Cradle Carnival from December 18 to 22.

Additional highlights include the Association of Faculties’ Presidents’ Ojude UI event on December 20, featuring cultural and musical performances; D’Fantasy Land’s variety program from December 22 to 26; and the Oyo Durbar’s Je Ka Faaji parade on December 27. The Hoteliers’ Association will coordinate a series of festive shows throughout the holiday season.

Royal Entertainment Cruise will host the Faaji Cruise, featuring celebrity appearances and live music from December 24 to January 2. JAGZ Hotel will offer flexible festive programming, and the renowned Amala Festival, a culinary and cultural exhibition, is scheduled for January 6. Fashion enthusiasts can look forward to Ibadan Fashion Rising’s exhibitions, while Ariya Networks and the Adayeba Culture Tourism Foundation will manage publicity and promotions throughout the festival.

Driving Growth for Local Businesses and Artisans

Dr. Olatubosun concluded the press conference with a positive outlook, underscoring Vibing December’s role as a powerful economic engine. “This festival is designed to stimulate growth for small enterprises, creatives, event organizers, transport operators, and artisans connected to the tourism ecosystem. Oyo State is poised to celebrate in spectacular fashion,” he remarked.

Representatives from participating organizations, including renowned Yoruba film actor Kunle Afod, shared insights into their planned contributions to the festival during the briefing.

Official Launch and Future Prospects

The grand opening of the Vibing December carnival is slated for the first week of December, with Governor Seyi Makinde expected to officiate the ceremony. This event marks a significant step in positioning Oyo State as a premier destination for cultural tourism and entertainment during the festive season and beyond.
