Captain of the Nigeria national team, Ahmed Musa, has revealed that this is the last time he will be playing in an Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
Musa stated this during a press conference ahead of the Super Eagles’ opening fixture against Egypt on Tuesday.
According to the 29-year-old, he will participate in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar if Nigeria qualifies. However, he would retire before the next AFCON.
Musa, who is the national team’s most-capped player, also said he has charged his teammates to win the the2021 AFCON as a “parting gift for me”.
He said: “I think this is my last AFCON InShaa Allah.
“I have spoken to the boys that this is the only gift you can give to me because this is my last AFCON. And the boys told me that they are ready.
“My first AFCON was in South Africa in 2013 and we ended up winning it. And my second appearance was in Egypt and we won the bronze.”
Musa, in his 12 years of playing for the Eagles, has netted 16 goals including four at different World Cups.
