Oyogist.com has learned that the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, has died.
The monarch reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday, January 2 at 93.
The monarch who ruled over 11 local government areas that make up of Ibadan died less than one month after the death of Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Jimoh Oyewumi.
It was gathered that the Olubadan died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Confirming the Olubadan’s death, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, said,
“The news of the death of our father, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso I, came as a shock.
“His wealth of experience, his immense wisdom, and his commitment to seeing a greater Ibadan and a better Oyo State are unrivalled.
“Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria and humanity at large will miss Kabiyesi, who was ever ready to give his all to see a better society.”
Adetunji, who was crowned the 41st Olubadan on March 4, 2017, was born on August 26, 1928. He was the first of 17 children of his parents.
