Human rights lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, SAN, has said the Department of State Services, DSS, released Nollywood veteran actor, Chiwetalu Agu, after searching his phones and found nothing incriminating, Oyogist.com reports.

He disclosed this in a statement he signed titled: ‘Chiwetalu Agu Released By DSS’.“Several interactions were held by the chambers with the DSS operatives, who were, however, very civil and very cooperative.

“Agu was released this (Tuesday) evening to Steve Eboh and Monalisa Chinda (Director of Media, Actors Guild of Nigeria), by the DSS at their headquarters in Abuja, after a careful search on his phones showed nothing incriminating,” he said.

Agu was first arrested by the Nigerian Army on October 7, 2021, around Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State, for wearing a Biafra outfit while distributing bread and other items to the poor.

The army had accused him of soliciting support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra which has been accused of several acts of terrorism.

He was subsequently handed over to the DSS for investigation and prosecution. It was gathered that Agu was first moved from Anambra to Enugu and then to Abuja and all attempts to see him in Abuja were rebuffed by the DSS.

The Nollywood actor was released from the Department of State Services on Tuesday evening.
