The cryptocurrency Bitcoin has reached a record high of $44,000 after leading electric car manufacturer, Tesla announced it purchased $1.5 billion worth of the virtual currency, OYOGist.com reports.
The surge for the cryptocurrency saw bitcoin climb to $44,023 on Monday on the news that Tesla has accrued bitcoin purchases worth $1.5 billion in its U.S. Security and Exchange Commission filing.
Today, Bitcoin is currently at it’s peak, with 11% gain, after reaching it’s highest of $41,962 on January 8, 2021.
Tesla is headed by billionaire, Elon Musk. He is currently the world’s richest man with a net worth of $190 billion.
The billionaire founder of the electric car maker, Elon Musk has been a strong promoter of the virtual currency. Musk increased intrest in the virtual currency after adding “#bitcoin” to his Twitter bio.
