The federal has disclosed that four pedestrian bridges are to be constructed between Ibadan Tollgate and Ojoo, as a part of ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Director, Highways Construction and Rehabilitation, Federal Ministry of Works, Mr Funso Adebiyi, disclosed this after a gathering with some officials of the government , in Ibadan, at the weekend, Adebiyi said the development of the four pedestrian bridges will lookout of the high human density on tollgate and Ojoo axis.
He, however, said officials of the federal and Oyo government are going to be embarking on a tour of the road stretch, to make a decision where the pedestrian bridges are going to be sited.
This is as he added that the federal was collaborating with the Oyo government for effective management of control while the development works last.
Describing the Tollgate to Ojoo axis together of the busiest sections of the project, with high traffic volume, Adebiyi, however, noted that the road are going to be closed and opened at about 4 kilometres interval to ease the expected traffic build-up.
He appealed to road users to point out understanding, empathy and take ownership of the project.
The director said construction works on the expressway is quite halfway gone, with plans to commission the project within the primary quarter of 2022.
“We are watching about four major pedestrian bridges but we are discussing with the Oyo government if it’ll want to fund a couple of more infrastructure. aside from pedestrian bridges, we are thinking of street lightings as well; the government might want to collaborate with us.
“When we construct the road, they’ll put street lighting. it’s a collaboration, so we try our greatest to make a synergy between the state and therefore the Federal Governments. If the federal is doing four pedestrian bridges, the state can do additional four, because the stretch is sort of long and therefore the population is sort of high,” he said.
He ruled out compensation for those whose structures are going to be demolished, noting that such structures were built on the proper of way of the federal .
He, however, noted that no major demolitions are to be done except some kiosks and extended parts of some filling stations.
