Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has underscored the necessity to constantly review the traditional means of handling the safety challenges within the country, following the killing of rice workers in Zabarmari community of Borno State.

Osinbajo, who spoke on Tuesday in Lafia during a one-day official visit to Nasarawa State when accosted by reporters on his arrival, said the Muhammadu Buhari administration was able to put new ideas on the table so as to secure the country.

The vice chairman , who was received by Governor Abdullahi Sule, said the efforts to secure the state required “a lot more of local intelligence and therefore the community policing”.

He said the safety agencies could swiftly attend to challenges if necessary information was provided on time.

He said: “As the President said, these groups of individuals have acted insanely in such a dastardly manner, killing innocent people, people that had gone to their farms to figure .

“I spoke to the Governor, Governor Babagana Zulum and therefore the former Governor, Senator Kashim Shettima to precise my condolence, but more importantly, to undertake and think through ways of handling this type of random attacks.

“It’s important to know also that we’ll probably got to keep reviewing the traditional means of handling a number of these issues, these security challenges, especially the randomness.

“Which is why the President has said that he’s taking a significant check out the way to affect the problems , especially the randomness: some insane person goes into an area and shoots people, that’s not the type of thing that you simply are prepared for conventionally.

”We need to do tons more local intelligence and a few of the community policing efforts we are planning on, in order that information is supplied faster, especially at the local level then a reaction will then be possible.”

Osinbajo added: “It may be a major tragedy; it’s a really unfortunate thing and our hearts are with the family of these who were killed in such a terrible manner.

“We are very confident and therefore the federal will still do what it must do especially in terms of trying to make sure security within the Northeast and every one over Nigeria.

“You’ve heard the President and what he has got to say, especially a number of the new ideas around security and therefore the security architecture which we try to place in situ . we’ll get there.”
