According to report reaching oyogist.com, the Nigerian Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has reportedly denied the recent media circulated report stating where he said ‘Nigeria is at the mercy of Boko Haram.’
Mr. Lai Mohammed made this known while speaking with some online news publishers in Lagos. According to the minister, he described the circulated news report as a “social media abuse, sheer fabrication and abuse of platform.”
Mr.Lai Mohammed also condemned the way the social media is now used to spread false news to the public stating that “if things get to a level where people can no longer trust anything published online, no one stands to lose more than media practitioners.”
The Minister also noted that the government has no plan to shut down the social media but to check mate the activities of the social media users.
“For the umpteenth time, I want to say that this government has no plan to stifle free speech, neither do we have any intention of shutting down the internet as some have claimed,’’ Lai said.
