OYOGist.com has learned that the call to scrap the Nigerian Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has once again hit the Nigerian social media space by some Nigerians after the agency deviated from their duty and started indulging themselves in an unconstitutional duty by illegally harassing, arresting and killing of innocent Nigerian youths.

The call to scrap them took advance stage after it was reported about few days ago that some of the officers killed a young guy and took his white Lexus SUV away at Ughali area of Delta State

While some top government officials are calling for SARS to be scrapped, the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, at the sitting today has kicked against scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad popularly called SARS.

As the lawmakers deliberated a motion on the recent extrajudicial killings carried out by a security personnel attached to the controversial Nigerian police unit, Lawan stated that some good officers in the police unit might be denied the opportunity to perform better if the security is scrapped.

The Senate President said;

“I think that this is the situation that should be properly investigated. Those involved in recent incident should be arrested and prosecuted. The law should take its due course. This is not acceptable. Nigerians need to know what happened to those who have killed Nigerians. “

“There are good people and bad people in SARS. Scrapping of agencies when you have mistakes may not be the best position. Rule of law should be put in place. If you scrap SARS, you lose the chance of getting those doing well to continue to do well.”
