Protests Erupts in Abuja, Lagos, Protesters Demands Declaration of State of Emergency on Gender Based Violence

Nigerians have taken to the streets to protests over the recent spike in the number of victims of gender based violence.

The purpose for the protest, according to a source, is a call on the Government to declare a state of emergency on gender based violence.

A participant in the protest identified on twitter as @AbiodunEssiet, wrote;

We are here at the . @PoliceNG headquarters in Abuja to ask the. @NigeriaGov to take a critical look on issues affecting women and girls and declare a state of emergency on sexual and genders based violence in #Nigeria #StateOfEmergencyGBV #justiceforvictims UBUNTU. @thecableng”

Another participants, identified on twitter as @DCynthiaM wrote ;

“Declare #StateOfEmergencyGBV women and girls need to be safe and free in Nigeria. Stop raping our children! Stop raping our women! Stop Violence against women and girls Nigeria!”
