“Devil in a blue dress” actor, Mel Winkler dies at 78

Mel Winkler, a character actor known for his voiceover work and appearances in such films as “Devil in a blue dress”, “Doc Hollywood”, has died in his sleep on Thursday, OYOGist.com reports.

As announced by the family, Winkler died peacefully in his sleep aged 78 of unknown causes at his Hollywood home.

He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 23, 1941, served in the U.S. Army and started acting in 1969, his debut movie was the soap opera, The Doctors

Courtney Benson, a spokeswoman for his family, called Winkler “a consummate professional [who was] always willing to share his knowledge and wisdom on any given subject. His infectious smile and love for family will forever be missed. He was a giant among many” via The Hollywood Reporter.

Winkler is survived by children, Maury and Mark, and four granddaughters.
