According to reports reaching OYOGist.com, smartphone makers, Mara has announced plans to build a $100 million factory in Nigeria after launching the same in South Africa and Rwanda. The phones will be manufactured in Nigeria by over 2000 employees at different stages of production.
Despite the pandemic, the company said it is moving forward with plans to build a world-class factory in Nigeria that will produce high-quality, affordable smartphones. In 2019, the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) announced its plan to build the factory.

It is estimated that the factory that will cost $100 million to complete will generate more than 2,000 direct and highly skilled jobs and contribute to the transfer of technology and high-tech skills in Nigeria while helping to build and maintain a broad high-tech company ecosystem.
The smartphone brand headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda, started manufacturing its first smartphone in 2018 from a South African factory. However, the company says its Rwanda facility is the first to fully manufacture smartphone – the Mara X and Mara Z – as distinct from product assembly in Africa as it can be obtained in other phone factories across the continent, 100 percent locally.
According to the company, all components of the products, including the chips, are originated locally.
