The High Court of Ondo sitting in Akure has reportedly sentenced one Pastor Kolawole Samson to death by hanging for killing one middle-aged man, Ayo Olaniyi, in a village near Okeigbo State.

Earlier, the State Attorney General and the Commissioner for Justice, represented by two government lawyers, Mr Olusegun Akeredolu and Mrs Omotola Ologun, told the court that the pastor, on 3 March 2016, had inflicted severe cuts on the head of late Ayo Olaniyi when he went to hunt frogs with his three other friends in a fish pond owned by the convict in the village near Okeigbo.

The lawyers argued that the offense is contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Chapter 37, Laws of the State of Ondo (2006).

The accused claimed that he was not guilty of the offense but, in his judgment delivered yesterday, Justice Ademola Bola ruled that all evidence brought before the court in the last four years showed that Pastor Kolawole was guilty of killing Olaniyi. The judge was of the opinion that Samson Kolawole should die by hanging.
