OYOGist.com has learned that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been announced as champions of the 2019/2020 French Ligue 1 by French football’s governing body.
The declaration was made after a vote earlier today, to determine whether the ligue will end with promotions and relegations or not after being suspended indefinitely on 13 March, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
French football’s governing body was forced to end the 2019/2020 campaign after French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced earlier this week that, “The 2019-20 season of professional sports, including football, will not be able to resume.”
PSG had led the Ligue 1 table by 12 points from Marseille who have been announced as 1st runners up. Meanwhile, Uefa has said it will use statistics and performance to evaluate the clubs to play next season’s European club competitions.
The European football governing body added that national associations would need to select clubs to qualify for Europe, if the current season is not completed; while giving a deadline of 25 May for leagues to inform it if they will complete or cancel their campaigns.
