Giroud could still leave Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, but the London club would now be due a transfer fee if he was to seek pastures new.
Giroud is currently 33-year-old and has struggled to secure regular action during the current season, making just 13 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals in the process. He has a total of 21 goals in 76 appearances for the blues.
The France international was due to become a free agent at the end of the season on June 30, but will now be contracted with the Blues until 2021.
