As the deadly coronavirus continues to spread and the death toll from the incident rises, a hospital director in Wuhan, Liu Zhiming the director of Wuchang hospital has died.
This was confirmed in a statement released by local officials.
This news is coming amidst the confirmation that the death toll from the Coronavirus outbreak has hit 2,000.
Dr. Liu Zhiming is the director of Wuchang Hospital, where he led the effort to put the COVID-19 under control by focusing on treating several thousands of infected patients that visit the hospital.
The constant exposure to these patients led to Dr. Liu Zhiming’s death. He was 51.
According to the statement that was released, Dr. Liu Zhiming died on Tuesday, despite an “all-out” attempt to save him.
In a statement released by Wuhan Municipal Health Commission to announce his death, the hospital said Dr. Liu Zhiming participated in the battle against the disease.
“He important contributions in the work of fighting and controlling the virus,” said the statement.
“Unfortunately he became infected and passed away at 10:54 Tuesday morning at the age of 51 after all-out efforts to save him failed,”
The death toll from the coronavirus has hit 2,000 and the cases of infection are now as high as 75,000.
