The Governor of Borno State has been trending on the Internet after he gave a teacher he met at a public school a cash gift of N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira) and offered her a promotion.
The Governor gave the teacher, Mrs Obiageli Mazi, an indigene of Abia State, the cash gift and promotion because she was the only one present in the school when the Governor paid an unannounced visit to the school.
This is an effective way of rewarding excellence and promoting diligence at work.
The Governor was at the school as early as 6:30 am in the morning. While it was still very early, the pupils were yet to resume and all other teachers were absent, except for Mrs Obiagelie Mazi.
The Governor rewarded her, not minding that she was of Igbo descent and not a Borno indigene. He further told her that the State Government was “mightily proud” of her and that she will be retained in the service of the state even after her retirement.
Since the video went viral, lots of people have requested information on how to get across to her with the intention of giving her more gifts.
An influencer, Ogbeni Dipo Awodeji, even tweeted that people should raise money for her and reach out to her. Dipo has created a goal of helping her raise N1 million naira, and lots of people have already pledged to support the goal.
The teacher was promoted from being a primary school teacher to the assistant headmistress of the school.
