Nigeria has just been ranked as one of the top 20 countries that receive the most spam calls and unwanted messages. This report was released by the popular caller identity detection software Truecaller.
This is not the first time Nigeria would be making the list. In 2019, Nigerians received an average of 8.4 spam calls per month, which is 20% higher than the previous year.
According to the report titled TRUECALLER INSIGHTS: TOP 20 COUNTRIES AFFECTED BY SPAM CALLS & SMS IN 2019, Brazil tops the list of contries that received the most spam calls at number one, followed by Peru and Indonesia, both coming in at number 2 and 3 respectively. Nigeria was ranked number 18 on the list.

Other countries that featured on the list are Mexico, India, South Africa, Chile, the USA, Russia, Colombia, Canada, the UAE, and Italy.
Italy also came in at number 13, followed by Australia, Sri Lanka, Isreal and Lebanon on number 17. Nigeria was number 18, while Malaysia and Egypt took numbers 19 and 20 respectively.
On SMS, Nigeria took an even higher position on the list, coming in at number 7 among the top 20 most spammed countries. According to Truecaller, most of the countries in the top 20 most spammed list are countries in the emergin markets. African countries made the top 3 in the list of the countries that received the most unwanted sms.

Among the countries in the list are Ethiopia, who came in at number one, followed by South Africa and Kenya, both 2nd and 3rd respectively. Brazile took the 4th position, followed by Colombia and Pakistan at 5th and 6th respectively. Nigeria then came in and number 7.
Other countries on the most spam sms receivers are India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Tunisia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iraq, Malaysia, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Isreal and Ghana.
