The Governor of Oyo State, Engr Seyi Makinde, had just laid the foundation of a new replica of the ancient landmark building in Oyo State, known as Mapo Hall.
The Mapo Hall has been part of the heritage site of Ibadan, and Oyo State since it was commissioned during the colonial era by Captain Ross in 1929.
The new Mapo Hall, known as the ‘Mini Mapo Hall’ will “host meetings and other activities of the traditional council,” according to Governor Seyi Makinde.
The Governor was in the company of his Deputy, Rauf Olaniyan, the former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, HRM, Oba Saliu Adetunji and other dignitaries of Oyo State.
The Foundation Laying Ceremony of the Ibadan South West Traditional Council Building, known as the ‘Mini Mapo Hall’ took place on Monday 28 January, 2020.
Governor Seyi Makinde, at the occasion, acknowledged the importance of traditional institutions in maintaining order and peace in the society. There, he pledged to always accord due respect to the traditional rulers, noting that they will always be collaborators and not competitors.
The Governor stressed that both the executive arm of the government and the traditional rulers will work together for the good of the society.
