According to reports reaching oyogist.com, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari during a meeting with State Governors yesterday said the coverage of the #EndSARS protest by foreign media wasn’t balanced, laying emphasis to the Cable News Network and the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Recall during the EndSARS protest that spanned throughout the second week of October, protesters, both Home and abroad gathered in their numbers to stage a peaceful protest against police brutality and bad governance.
This led to the interverance of the Nigerian army on October 20, 2020, as the soilders dispersed the protesters with gunshots at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.
The incident was later reported by CNN, as the News Network alleged that soldiers used live bullets on the protesters, with live video coverage. Meanwhile BBC also showed the footage of the shooting and confirmed that peaceful protesters were shot at.
Speaking during a meeting with governors of the 36 states, President Buhari said he was dump founded of the two foreign press organizations.
“I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened. (They said we are all at fault. We don’t have the sympathy of anyone. We are on our own),” Garba Shehu, the presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari to have said.
