Sixteen (16) new members of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) board were inaugurated by the federal on Thursday, December 3, through the office of the Secretary to the govt of the Federation (SGF).
Speaking at the ceremony which was held in Abuja, SGF Boss Mustapha urged members of the board to make sure the implementation of sustainable pension policies.
According to him, 16 members are going to be saddled with the responsibility to proffer innovative and feasible solutions to the challenges of pension administration in Nigeria.
He added that in recent times the country had some challenges within the area of pension administration.
Mustapha further stated that it had been these challenges that necessitated the pension reform of 2004, which created PENCOM and introduced a compulsory Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for workers of both public and personal sectors, with few exceptions within the public service.
“As a government, we are always aware of our responsibilities with regards to the payment of pensions to eligible retirees within the Federal Public Service.”
The new members are: Oyindasola Oni – chairman, Aisha Dahir-Umar, Clement, Akintola, Anyim Nyerere, Charles Sylvester, Festus Dauda, Anita Shitu, Ayuba WabaB, obboi Kaigama, Abel Afolayan, Timothy Olawale, Edward Adamu, Lamido Yuguda, Oscar Onyema, Olorundare Sunday, and the executive commissioner (administration) representing the northwest geo-political zone.
