The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State has commended Governor Douye Diri’s administration for its investment in youth empowerment, describing the state’s skills acquisition programme as a major factor in reducing crime and improving public safety.
Speaking during a recent event, the police commissioner noted that the initiative has provided thousands of young people with practical vocational skills, helping them secure legitimate means of livelihood and steering many away from criminal activities.
According to the police chief, empowering youths through training and employment opportunities remains one of the most effective strategies for tackling insecurity. He said the programme has contributed to a noticeable decline in crime across several parts of the state, while strengthening cooperation between residents and law enforcement agencies.
Governor Diri’s administration has continued to prioritize skills development through various empowerment schemes aimed at equipping young people with marketable skills in areas such as technology, agriculture, fashion, construction, and entrepreneurship.
The commissioner urged beneficiaries of the programme to make good use of the opportunities provided, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when young people embrace productive ventures instead of crime.
He also encouraged the government to sustain and expand the initiative to reach more youths, expressing confidence that continued investment in human capital development would further enhance security and economic growth in Bayelsa State.
The commendation comes as stakeholders increasingly advocate for youth-focused policies as a long-term solution to unemployment, poverty, and insecurity across Nigeria.
