A Nigerian woman has sparked widespread conversation on social media after alleging that some child domestic workers, particularly those between the ages of 9 and 15, are subjected to abuse in certain Igbo households.

In a video shared online, she claimed that some of the young househelps endure physical, emotional, and psychological mistreatment while carrying out domestic responsibilities. She stressed that the issue should not be viewed as an attack on any ethnic group but as a call to address child abuse wherever it occurs.

The woman urged parents and guardians to treat children in their care with dignity and compassion, regardless of whether they are biological children or domestic helpers. She also called on relevant authorities and child protection agencies to investigate cases of abuse and ensure that victims receive justice.

Her comments have generated mixed reactions on social media. While many users agreed that child abuse remains a serious issue that deserves attention, others argued against generalising the actions of a few individuals to an entire ethnic group.

Child rights advocates have consistently maintained that all children deserve protection from exploitation, violence, and neglect, regardless of their background. They continue to call for stronger enforcement of child protection laws and increased public awareness to safeguard the welfare of vulnerable children across the country.
