The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general election, urging pensioners across the country to vote massively in support of his re-election bid.

The endorsement was announced by the National President of the union, Mazi Godwin Abumisi, during the commissioning of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners’ Legacy House at the union’s national headquarters in Abuja. According to Abumisi, the decision was based on what the union described as the Tinubu administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of retirees through pension increases, payment of arrears, and settlement of accrued pension rights.

Abumisi expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for policies he said had positively impacted pensioners nationwide, promising that the union would reciprocate the administration’s support by backing Tinubu at the polls in 2027. He called on pensioners to remain united and participate actively in the election.

The NUP president also highlighted the completion of the Pensioners’ Legacy House, describing it as a landmark project aimed at strengthening the union and providing a lasting symbol of unity for pensioners across Nigeria. He noted that the project was initiated after land was acquired in 2019 and was completed under his administration.

During the event, the union honoured several individuals who contributed to the project’s completion by naming sections of the complex after them, including former NUP leaders and state governors who supported the union. Abumisi also acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom), the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and other stakeholders toward advancing pensioners’ welfare.
