The Lagos State Government has announced plans to review the master plans of Lekki and other flood-prone communities as part of a renewed effort to tackle persistent flooding and improve urban planning across the state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed the decision during an inspection of flood-affected communities in the Ibeju-Lekki and Eti-Osa Local Government Areas. According to him, the review will help identify planning violations, strengthen drainage systems, and provide long-term solutions to the recurring floods experienced during the rainy season.

Sanwo-Olu said the government remains committed to protecting residents and critical infrastructure from the devastating effects of flooding. He noted that a comprehensive review of existing development plans would ensure future construction aligns with environmental and drainage standards.

The governor explained that the initiative forms part of broader measures to improve flood management, enforce planning regulations, and promote orderly development in rapidly expanding areas of Lagos. The inspection also enabled government officials to assess the extent of flood damage and determine immediate interventions for affected communities.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over repeated flooding in Lekki and surrounding areas, where heavy rainfall has caused widespread disruption, damaged properties, and stranded residents in recent weeks.
