Nigerians Will Vote for Competence, Integrity, Not Religion – Adebayo

Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has expressed confidence that Nigerians will prioritise competence, integrity and vision over religious identity when they cast their votes in the 2027 general elections.

Adebayo made the remarks while reacting to the renewed political debate surrounding the religious composition of presidential tickets ahead of the next election cycle. According to him, the country’s numerous economic and governance challenges require leaders with the capacity to deliver results rather than candidates chosen on the basis of religious or ethnic considerations.

He argued that Nigerians are becoming increasingly aware of the need for accountable leadership and would ultimately support candidates who demonstrate honesty, competence and a clear plan to improve the nation’s fortunes.

The SDP chieftain also maintained that justice, fairness and good governance should remain the central issues in the 2027 elections, stressing that reducing the contest to religious sentiments would distract from the real problems confronting the country.

Adebayo urged political leaders and citizens alike to focus on policies capable of addressing insecurity, unemployment, inflation and other pressing national concerns, insisting that effective leadership—not religious affiliation—would determine Nigeria’s future.

His comments come amid growing discussions over political alignments and potential presidential tickets as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum across the country.
