Convener of the Alternative Movement and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, Segun Sowunmi, has called on Nigerians to unite in demanding an end to the country’s persistent insecurity, insisting that meaningful progress will only come when citizens collectively declare that they have had enough.
Sowunmi said Nigeria’s worsening security situation requires more than government intervention, stressing that the entire nation must reject violence and criminality if lasting peace is to be achieved.
According to him, tackling insecurity should become a national priority embraced by all citizens, regardless of political, ethnic or religious differences. He argued that public indifference and division have allowed security challenges to persist for too long.
Sowunmi also addressed the country’s economic challenges, acknowledging the hardship many Nigerians are currently experiencing.
While recognising that government reforms may take time to produce results, he urged authorities to ensure that their policies deliver tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
He maintained that Nigerians deserve to see practical benefits from ongoing economic reforms, adding that patience alone cannot sustain public confidence if living conditions continue to deteriorate.
The former presidential campaign spokesperson concluded by urging both leaders and citizens to work together in rebuilding public trust, strengthening national unity and confronting insecurity with a shared sense of responsibility, noting that only collective determination can bring lasting change to the country.
