Residents of Akobo, Ibadan, were thrown into shock after a man was allegedly caught attempting to hide the body of his girlfriend inside the boot of his car.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect was seen trying to force the body of a young woman into the trunk of a Toyota Corolla before suddenly fleeing the scene.
Residents said the incident happened during the daytime when several neighbours were still outside due to the heat. The suspect reportedly became aware that people were watching and immediately abandoned the attempt.
Eyewitnesses claim the man then dropped the body on the ground and sped off in the vehicle.
Some residents also stated that they had earlier seen the suspect and the victim enter the house together earlier in the day.
Police later arrived at the scene where the body of the victim, identified as Precious, said to be a resident of Akobo, was recovered.
Sources within the community said the house where the incident allegedly occurred was found in disarray, and a hammer was reportedly discovered on the floor.
Locals have identified the suspect as Muhammad Quadri, a former student of The Polytechnic Ibadan and a former NYSC corps member.
Members of the community claim the couple had been involved in a toxic relationship prior to the incident, though authorities have not confirmed this claim.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities have yet to release an official statement, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue.
The incident has sparked outrage and concern among residents in the Akobo community.
