Governor Seyi Makinde has inspected the newly installed runway lighting system at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the facility into an international airport.

The inspection took place late at night, allowing officials to test the effectiveness and visibility of the newly installed runway lighting infrastructure.

According to the governor, the new lighting system is a critical component of the broader modernization project currently underway at the Ibadan airport. The upgrades are aimed at improving safety, enabling night operations, and positioning the airport to meet international aviation standards.

Photos shared from the inspection show Makinde alongside government officials, engineers, and project staff assessing the lighting system across the newly developed runway.

The project forms part of the Oyo State government’s plan to transform the airport into a major aviation hub capable of handling international flights and boosting economic activity in the region.

When completed, the upgraded airport is expected to enhance connectivity for Ibadan and surrounding states while strengthening trade, tourism, and investment opportunities.

The runway lighting inspection marks another milestone in the airport’s transformation into a fully operational international gateway for southwestern Nigeria.
