A court has sentenced a couple to a combined 375 years in prison after finding them guilty of adopting five Black children and using them as “slaves.”
According to prosecutors, the children were forced into labor and subjected to harsh and degrading conditions over several years. Authorities said the treatment amounted to modern-day slavery, with the children allegedly compelled to work and deprived of normal childhood freedoms.
During the trial, evidence was presented outlining the severity and duration of the crimes. The court described the actions as deliberate and sustained, imposing lengthy sentences to reflect the gravity of the offenses.
Child welfare advocates say the case highlights the urgent need for stronger post-adoption monitoring systems and better safeguards to protect vulnerable children. Officials emphasized that the ruling sends a clear message that crimes involving the exploitation and enslavement of children will face the most serious legal consequences.
